The Automatic -
Raoul
new single 8 January
I'm sure there will be another 'Monster' coming from The Automatic soon, but this tale of hard work and burger's 'Raoul' doesn't go quite as well. Nevertheless, they're hot and second time around 'Raoul' should find Top Twenty easily enough, especially with the novelty value of hearing The Automatic's take on Kanye West's 'Gold Digger' recorded live at the Leeds Festival. The Zutons -
It's The Little Things We Do
new single 27 November
It's a formulaic thang, The Zutons are there in the mix, just kind of missing out on a really big hit. Not sure whether this will break them into the mainstream but if they keep up the 'Pressure' they should get there sooner rather than later. XXXx

Larrikin Love -
Well, Love Does Furnish A Life
new single 15 Jan
Larrikin Love have a superb single here, if there's any justice Top Five success. This catchy, mellowed out yet quite up-beat 2 minute opus should herald a busier 2007 for the Lovers. That'll be going some as they wind up 2006 touring with Kooks, Pogues, Dirty Pretty Things, Feeder and King Creosite ... and this will be the fourth single from 'A Freedom Spark'. XXXX

Clinic -
If You Could Read Your Mind
new single 5 February
There's an air of mystique about Clinic. A kind of Peter Gunn myster-ique, jangling guitars and strange distant vocals make for a superbly atmospheric sound. 'If You Could Read Your Mind', a great title and their strongest single to date should see Top Thirty in February. It's the second single to be lifted from their second album 'Visitations'. XXXX

Just Jack -
Starz In Their Eyes

new single 15 January

Jack's got it, he's swallowed a dictionary. He makes some potent comments about old Matthews Starz In Their Eyes, observing that many contestants are in fact ... crap. Jack doesn't seem to like the idea of fooling people that they can be starz, or the idea of watching them self-destruct. I think he's got a good point. An excellent chune from a superb debut album! XXXX

The Fratellis -
Whistle For The Choir

new single 27 November

That's quite a collection of knickers The Fratellis must have,
"the most exciting thing in the world for a bloke", to paraphrase Rolling Stone / womanizer Bill Wyman. The F's have got it, they know how to tell a tale and pen a tune, there's very nearly sleighbells in this steamy tale too. That is 'almost', so it should stay fresh in the new year. Excellent! XXXXx thefratellis.com (Posted 3 Dec)

Public Domain & Lucia Holm - I Feel Love
new single 15 January

No.1 in July '77, a hit again in the 80's with Marc Almond & Jimmy Sommerville, in the 90's. A mesmerizing composition, a ground breaking electronic keyboard record by Georgio Moroder with Donna Summer's vocals originally. Public Domain keep to the original 'feel' but with extra 'pounding' bass and production. White labelled last May and '07 chartbound. XXXX

Some Velvet Morning -
Losing My Mind

new single 5 February

A London trio with a storming debut. Brothers Des & Gavin Lambert and Rob Flanagan have staked their ground out brilliantly here ... up-tempo, foot stomping rock & roll ... a filthy, gutsy bass riff and chunky guitar, 'soulful' vox in a rock way. Produced by Rik Simpson (Kasabian / Coldplay) and Mike Pelanconi (Lilly Alle / Graham Coxon) Ones to watch! XXXXx

Queen vs The Miami Project - Another One Bites The Dust
new single 11 December

Queen topped the American charts in 1980 with this dancefloor filler, this is a superb and an official remix. The Miami Project should go Top Ten with this, it's a great stomping thumping 125bpm, keeping Freddy Mercury's vocals true to the original - Great. XXXX

Eric Prydz vs Floyd -
Proper Education

new single 1 January

'Call on me' ... here comes Eric Prydz with a beefy 125bpm Pink Floyd. Hey and it sounds like the same children who don't need any education ... and they don't sound any older. Again superb pounding production, surely another Top Ten for Prydz & co. XXXX

The View -
Same Jeans
new single 15 January
'Same Jeans' is a superb single, off-beat enuff for Radio One and charming enough for Radio 2 ... in fact I can hear Wogan musing on the tardi-ness of failing to put one's jeans in the wash even now. By February The View should Top Twenty with this single and with their debut album 'Hats Off to the Buskers' out on 22 Jan they should be hot on the trail of their kinsmen The Fratellis. XXXXx

Thomas Tantrum -
Armchair
new single 4 December
Thos. Tantrum are a female four piece from Goatee Beach
"they specialise in wiry guitar patterns with Little Red riding Hood vocals". 'Armchair' is enchanting, prhaps B52's inspired. You may have heard them on Xfm, 6 Music. To promote this, their debut release on the excellent Marquis Cha Cha record label you can the girls see live at The Fly on Thur 7 Dec, Notts Junktion 7 on Fri 15 and in Middlesbrough Empire on 21 Dec. Razorlight -
Before I Fall To Pieces

new single 18 December

Having just completed their first UK Arena tour, it's been a hell of a year for Johnny & The Razors and it ends with a strange choice for a new single. 'Before I Fall To Pieces' slow starts up to 140bpm, written by Johnny and drummer Andy Burrows, fine material for a great vid starring Guy Pearce as a down and out superhero ... you get the picture? yes we see - mmm XXX

Switches -
Drama Queen

new album 29 January

Southend United may be the strongest team in The Championship (propping up the rest) but The Switches are busy 'Laying Down The Law' with their debut album on Atlantic Records due for release in early 07. 'Drama Queen' sets the tone, a fine tune, and that's what this band seems to be about ... catchy chorus and lyrics and good arrangement and production. XXX

Sharam -
Party All The Time

new single 25 December

'Party All the Time' as Eddie Murphy had it - a Rick James production that US Number One'd in 1985 has inspired Sharam, a big fan of the tune to put his own versh. together. At 131bpm this should fill January's dancefloors with feelgood fun. Sharam Tayebi

mans the turntables as one half of the Grammy award winning DJ/production duo Deep Dish. Characterized by a harder style than his partner Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia, Sharam performs as Deep Dish featuring Sharam, when he takes to the road to deliver his signature half of the distinctive Deep Dish sound. Klaas Vs I AM FINN
iloveyou
new single 1 January
'Fresh from serving up electro monsters Get Twisted and Confession, German producer/remixer Klaas (Freelance Hellraiser) steps out of his comfort zone for his latest cut by teaming up with London's fresh prince of electronic rock, I AM FINN. "iloveyou" emerged when Klaas stumbled upon 20 year old I AM FINN - who creates his music alone playing, programming and performing like a born again Beck - via myspace and messaged him about working on a track together. The result of their online collaboration (they have yet to even speak to one another let alone meet) is a warped take on love; I AM FINN wrote the song as a piss-take to his on/off girlfriend (who was being particularly off at the time). Completing the package is a typically

oblique treatment by Modular Records' hotly tipped quartet Van She (their tech hip mix comes hot on the heels of their vocoder-reviving mix of Gravity's Rainbow for Klaxons) and their VAN SHE remix is a storming electro dance pounder, well worthy! XXXX myspace.com/iamfinn (Posted 3 Dec)

Jarvis - Don't Let Him Waste Your Time
new single 8 January

'Some skinny bitch walks by in hotpants and he's running out the door, Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' - sharp as ever Mr Cocker should be Top Twenty again soon. There's a sense of drama to this arrangement, the heavy guitar (heavy as in deep) compliments Jarv's lyrics brilliantly and the whole thing will kind of meander into your subconscious nicely given the chance.
