Beck -
Cell Phone's Dead

new single 9 October

How does Beck transcend cool, his records are always original. It's so difficult to be original when so many things are derivative but Hansen seems to manage it effortlessly. Robotic riff, Beck's unique rapping and our appetite is whet for new album 'The Information', never been done before visuals and a groundbreaking live show. XXXXx

The Lemonheads -
Become The Enemy
new album 16 October
"It's my fault, I never learned a trade, so I just sleep all day" the imortal line opening line of 'Become The Enemy" heralding the return of Evan Dando and co. with a first single from their first album in years. A rather unusual lyric bemoaning ... wasted time .. doing a job you'd rather not .. trademark feel will surely mean this is a big hit and I believe absence has made the heart grow fonder. Milburn - Well Well Well new album 9 October
A fine debut album from Milburn with twelve top tunes and their next single 'What You Could've Won' a little longer than 'Send In The Boys' and 'Cheshire Cat Smile' pulls in at 3'30". Possibly earmarked for a fourth single, our current fave track with it's catchy guitar riffing is track 4 ‘What About Next Time'. See the boys on tour in October ... starting in Wrexham on the 12th then Glasgow, Brixton Academy, Leeds, Preston, Norwich, Bournemouth, Bristol, Reading, Portsmouth, Gloucester, Sheffield, Manchester, Belfast, Newcastle & Stoke. The View -
Superstar Tradesman

new single 23 October

Dundonian's The View follow-up 'Wasted Little DJ's' with 'Superstar Tradesman'. Again, produced by Owen Morris (producer of Oasis 'Definately Maybe' and The Verve's 'Northern Soul') with a trademark British indie rock sound. The View have this year toured with Primal Scream played a blinder at T in the Park and have more dates on the way. Their debut album is due in early 2007.

The Academy Is -
The Phrase That Pays

new single 23 October

The advance of EMO continues, it's wordy lyrics, and story-book songs. It's pop/rock with longer lyrics and perhaps a larger variety of subject matter. The Academy Is are another fine band, a five piece from Chicago, you may have seen on tour with label mates Fall Out Boy. 'The Phrase' will be available as exclusive audio and video download only and it's great.

Mr Hudson&The Library
The Bread & Roses EP

new EP 16 October

The bizarre 'Hancock vs Hudson' has to be a first - legendary 50's and 60's British comic Tony Hancock's Blood Donor sketch sampled over a backing track. A truly strange and wonderous innovation - what substances must have brought this on? Just signed to Mercury Records, 'Bread & Roses' is a funky first outing, a tasty little treat to introduce Mr Hudson & The Library. An arty name but so what? These guys have a kind of original approach.

Born Ruffians -
EP
new EP 16 October
Luke LaLonde, Mitch DeRosier and Steve Hamelin - collectively known as Born Ruffians are signed to XL Recordings. Three accoustic guitar based offerings bring to mind The White Stripes, they're short tunes and offbeat lyrics. Nothing really stands out as ahit ... yet.

Clinic -
Harvest
new single 2 October
Liverpool foursome Clinic's new album 'Visitations' is preceded by this new taster single 'Harvest (Within You)' . An immediately eerily atmospheric Joy Divisionesque atmosphere readies for an angry sounding vocal. 'You Can't Hurt You Anymore' and 'Lee Shan' have distinctly 60's feel with Hammond organ? Possibly and a sixties sounding keyboard intro. Intriguing and beguiling. XXXx

Basement Jaxx -
Hush Boy
new single 28 Aug
Brilliant disco, enacted with some indie credibility, and some non pc femme fatale vox. This is clever and sexy at the same time, a classy sophistication as you'd expect from the Jaxx. XXXXx

Justin Timberlake -
Sexy Back
new single 28 Aug
Never mind what Joe Mutt says in The Daily Star ... many of the vocals on Justin's first single in three years sound rushed and limp, in fact the whole affair is rather like a premature ejaculation ... The last thing this resembles is sexy, a few more of these high expectations and Justin's goose will be cooked ... better luck with the album 'Future Love Sounds' out on 12 Sept. XXx
