Jarvis Cocker -
Running The World

available on myspace download now

I've renewed a sneaking admiration for Jarvis Cocker since this new track puts him at loggerheads with pretty well the entire world. You're unlikely to hear this on air in many places since it's title could offend any powers that be anywhere. 'Cunts are still running the world' was inspired by the Live-8 spectacle, and released on his myspace site to mark the first anniversary of the grandiose samaritan like concert.
Since then it has received 115,075 plays. Ok so 115 thousand people know Jarvis ... well 'Cunts', lifted as a taster from his forthcoming solo album is a biting observation on the impass. A soft piano line leads into a soft vocal intro gradually turning to an angry delivery with a rousing cruscendo of an arrangement. While it is an unreasonable expectation that we'll invite the whole world to dinner, there are certainly some thing's wrong that can be changed. This is a great track. Three Pulp albums are about to be re-released and with his new solo album set for November birth, Jarvis is going to be busy. XXXXx www.myspace.com/jarvspace (Posted 25 Aug)
Albert Hammond, Jr -
Everyone Gets A Star

new single 4 September : album 9 October

The Strokes guitar man is joined here by Josh Lattanzi on bass and Matt Romano on drums ... and Julian Cassablancas, Jody Porter from Fountains of Wayne, Ben Kweller, sean Lennon, Mikki James. Sammy James Jr, and Ryan Gentles. A little softer than you'd expect, if you like The Strokes you'll probably like this recorded at Electric Ladyland and a first taste of the album 'Yours To Keep'. The Longcut -
A Tried & Tested Method

new single 4 September : album 9 October

The best yet from The Longcut, certainly the most commercially minded ... traces of the guitar riffing of The Cure and a stronger vocal plot could see this deliver a Top Thirty position ... tha's a prediction foryou. XXXx

Dirty Pretty Things -
Wondering
new single 25 Sept
Yep Carl Barrat is back, looking over his shoulder 'Wondering' what his fame minded former actress sister Lucie and her band The Fay Wrays may be planning. 'Wondering' has some traditional lyrical quality to it, medium paced - rather more accessible than 'You F 'in Love It', and it should see Top Twenty action with no problems.

All American Rejects -
It Ends Tonight

new single 18 September

'Dirty Little Secret' finally cracked the Top 40 and the next single will see The All American Rejects go ballad ... 'It Ends Tonight' is sweet, in fact it's mellow man!

Akira The Don -
Oh! / Boom new single 11 Sept

Oh ATD is back with a groovy ode toi waking up with a hangover and taking some time to yourself to recover,
'What a glorious day, waking up in the morning baby'. The man's got attitude and a keen lyric, we loved Bankers (Wankers) and 'Oh', one of the shortest titles ever, could well become a late summer anthem. 'Boom' was recorded at ATD's flat with Whylout who feature Marvin The Martian .. Akira's mixtape ATD#10 has been downloaded over 100,000 times. XXXXx www.akirathedon.com/music (Posted 25 Aug)

The Matches -
You (Don't) Know Me

new single 18 Sept

A superbly original energetic vocal tune. The Matches have managed to create something which fits the indie / alternative bracket in an obvious yet edgy and 'funny' style ... it's the bizarre high pitched vocals on the intro that make this track stand out from the pack. Transplants Tim Armstrong is Producer and supplies a remix of the tune, a worthy appetizer for The Matches second album 'Decomposer' out shortly.

Slayer -
Christ Illusion

new album 21 August

The sleeve features severed heads, the album features a track called 'Jihad'. Jihad itself starts medium paced enough before the thrash piles in for three minutes of headbanging and a stoccato repeated vocal 'Satan, Satan, Satan' echoes to fade. Are Slayer going moving up a gear? There's a fair chance judging by this topical project, 'Christ Illusion' ...

Outkast - Idlewild new album 21 Aug
Andre and Big Boi are the biznezz, flying in the face of convention, they don't care who don't get it. 'Michael Brown' ... ??? It's on another level, then there's 'Train' .... in some ways the whole thing is reminiscent of Prince's chums The Time, but then again there aren't too many artistes who pen a song with the title 'Bombs Over Bhagdad. Superior flava, worth an interrogation!

Beyonce -
Deja Vu
new single 21 Aug
Over the last few years Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have done what Stock Aitken & Waterman did twenty years ago, Motown house producers did forty years ago, and tin pan alley writers did 90 years ago, that is get their name on loads of other people's records. There's a certain quality to this, the bass pumps through, the rap is succinct, Beyonce is flawless, absolutely flawless
