Wolfmother -
Love Train
new single 18 Sept
Wolfmother like a cross between Jamiroquai and Lenny Kravitz offer another hit single in 'Love Train'. Not the O'Jays song but with an intro not completely unlike The O'Jays classic 'I Love Music' it's irresistable - bongos are back big time. The song is featured in the US, Canadian and Australian iPod ads and it could be a UK number one, it's that good!

The Maccabees
Precious Time
promo only
'Time can change so much, are you still mine' delicately beamed up from 'Unchained Melody' into the climax of 'Precious Time'. Brighton's Maccabees are on the same bus as The Arctics and The Young Knives, an energetic real life, punked up pop for '06. Quality of writing will determine the bands longevity, this is very here and now and should easily take some 'Precious Time' in the Top 40. XXXXx www.themaccabees.co.uk (Posted 23 Aug)
James Dean Bradfield -
An English Gentleman
new single 18 Sept
Sixteen years after The Manics first hit there's really no sign of a split, or the creative juices running dry. James solo debut includes some fine tunes, perhaps more introverted than The Manics, catchy enough nevertheless. For some reason the title 'An English Gentleman'
seems to conjour up ideals of a previous generation. XXXx www.jamesdeanbradfieldofficial.com (Posted 23 Aug)

Drown
release to be confirmed
From Louisville, Kentucky
comes what many hail as the new Deftones, Incubus .. and there is more than a little evidence to suggest they may be headed for big things to be found on 'Drown'. A mellow, medium paced, grungy type affair lifted from their debut EP 'Dirty Cheese and The Hoodie Thieves' XXXx www.intheclear.net (Posted 23 Aug)
Neil Leyton-
The Betrayal Of Self

new album 18 Sept

From Sweden comes the third album by Canadian Neil Layton featuring his backing band The Ghosts, Diamond Dogs, Dregen, The Hellacopters and Rich Jones of Amen & Dogs d'Amour fame.
This is a curious collection with a host of influences you could trace to David Bowie, an intriguing listen and first single 'Hyperventilating' should open the door or not as the case may be XXX www.neilleyton.co.uk (Posted 23 Aug)
The Rapture -
Get Myself Into It
(Serge Santiago UK edit)

new single 18 Sept

A superb 6'22" remix by Serge Santiago ... nice name ... The Rapture speeded up 1 or 2 bpm with a little extra thud on the bass ... storming, should go Top Ten easy.

New Young Pony Club
Ice Cream
new single 28 Aug
NYPC were unlucky with 'Get Lucky', their fortune should improve with new single 'Ice Cream'. A tantalising lyric, designed to make guys hot, and cool at the same time ..
'a minimal punk funk jerkout' a-la The Slits Ari-Up & produced by David Byrne' ... well it could be ... 'I can give you what you want, I can make your heart beat short, every morning dip your d**k!'' Tahita's vox are hot and this band can funk, they deserve a hit with 'Ice Cream' XXXXx myspace.com/newyoungponyclub.com

CORD -
Sea Of Trouble

new single 18 Sept

I really rate CORD, they're like Travis or Keane but with an unpredictable edginess. 'Winter' is a fine curtain raiser to these Norwich guys chart career and here comes
'We're in an awful mess with money honey' - it's inspired, the production by Tom Lord-Alge is superb. Even though not many came to watch their 5pm Cardiff Festival show time is on their side. XXXXx www.cordonline.co.uk (Posted 23 Aug)
Just Jack -
Overtones
new album 9 Oct
Look out for Jack Allsopp, you may have seen him with Money Mark or at The Wireless Festival - aka Just Jack is experimenting with well ... everything - opener 'Writer's Block' samples a femme talking inanely about her day, straight into a Streets/Plan B type rap over a funky 110bpm rhythm track. Some interesting effects an appealing and entertaining listen which deserves some success.

Switches -
Lay Down The Law

new single 25 Sept

You may have seen Switches support The Rakes or The Automatic and this 500 copy limited edition single confirms the band as upwardly mobile. Matt Bishop's catchy hook in a song inspired by proximity to a brothel and the resultant noise polution ... See them at Leeds 25th, Reading 26th and Southampton Lennons 2nd September.

Gelatine Rocks -
Abandoned Pop Moments EP
release tbc
Hmmm ... Gelatine Rocks ... Track 1 of six 'Duster' is like a barmy Fatboy Slim production,
'have a cupof tea boyo' written and produced by Jim Sydeways, drums by Ed Lush. Then there's 'Shift Key Noodles', 'Deputizing For Anthea', 'Must Get On', 'Four Short Wings' and 'Difficult To Please'. Yeah it's a little diffferent frothy fun, should stand out. XXXXx www.gelatinerocks.com (Posted 23 Aug)
