My Chemical Romance -
The Black Parade

new single 9 October

Some may say pretentious but the ambition of this new concept album is undeniable and ... the title track is is a spine-tingler of an appetizer. A lone piano note announces the arrival of a song which develops Bohemian Rhapsody like into an epic tale of death and glory, there's even a hint of Brian May guitar. 'The Ghost Of You' - the sequal - brilliant. XXXXx

Paramore - Pressure new download only single 30 October
Paramore follow 'Emergency' with 'Pressure' another superb track from their debut album 'All We Know Is Falling'. Singer 17 year old Hayley Williams, bass Jeremy Davis, guitar Hunter Lamb, lead guit Josh & drummer Zac Farro begin a nine date UK tour at Cardiff Barfly on Thursday 5 October where they'll be supported by Cute Is What We Aim For. This is exciting music, top five hopefully! XXXXx

The Dears -
Whites Only Party

new single 16 October

The Dears release their best song yet a storming almost Adam Ant Goody Two Shoes like drum track, an intriguing title and a curious lyric. The second single from the wry 'Gang Of Losers' and follow-up to the mocking 'Ticket To immortality'. All this bodes well for The Dears having their biggest hit yet.

Lorraine -
Heaven
new single 2 October
Norway have the natural pop successors to a-ha in again a three piece outfit. Lorraine have had to move from their homeland to gain recognition, lead singer Ole Gunderson told me of their trek around Europe chasing a record deal. 'I Feel It' was a deserved top thirty hit, 'Transatlantic Flight' was just as good and now comes the third single, a cover of The Psycadelic Furs 'Heaven'. A fine crossover pop hit . XXXX

Girl That Speaks No Words
new single 9 October
This band rocks ... andthey can dance too. Unlucky not receive greater success with their first to singles, 'Girl That Speaks No Words' comes with a great cover of The Raconteurs 'Steady As She Goes' - demonstrating what a great Jack White composition it is. Top Twenty?

Kill 100
new single 18 September
The Music's Rob Harvey guests on 'Kill 100' the first single from X-press 2's new album 'Makeshift Feelgood'. It is in fact an all-star cast featuring Kurt wagner of Lambchop, Tim De Laughter of polyphonic Spree, Anthony Roman from Radio 4, Bernard Fowler Peech Boys and Kissing the Pink. With so many heads it could be messy, but this is minimalist and a pounding mellow Ibiza beat rises to a storming climax. Briliant. XXXXx

Mumm-Ra -
Out Of The Question

Mumm-Ra release a second fine single, 'Out Of The Question' has a light electric accoustic feel, light airy vocals, it's a catchy lyric. A new set of tour dates just announced, they play at Cardiff Barfly on Saturdy 28 October supported by Amusement Parks On Fire. XXXx

Janie Jones
new single 30 October
It's a Clash song, t's got Pete Doherty and ... Carl Barat, Kooks, Rakes, Mystery Jets, Paddingtons, Larrikin Love, Good Books, Lisa Moorish? (Yep Pete & Liam's let's all get related former floosie), Jamie T, Guillemots and Lady Fuzz plus .... It's safe to assume this is going to be a big hit, and nevermind that porny girl Janie Jones is now in her seventies it's not a bad recording either, recapturing much of The Clash's urgency. XXXx

Vega 4 have come up with a three minute epic here, 'Traffic Jam' is produced by Garret 'Jacknife' Lee of U2/Snow Patrol/Bloc Party/Editors fame. The Matches -
Decomposer
new single 18 Sept
Tim Armstrong ... Transplants ... Rancid ... The Matches are brilliant, there's real character and in ya face rock here. Perhapos previewed by the surprising edgy sounds displayed on The Transplants 'Diamonds and Guns' a few years back, 'Decomposer' deserves and should recieve great acclaim. Brilliant. XXXXx

Patrick Wolf -
Accident & Emergency

new single 23 October

Patrick Wolf ad Edward Larrikin from Larrikin Love can be heard on this. A riff modelled on Aztec Camera & Mick Jones 'Good Morning Britain' with fine results, and following Paramore the word 'Emergency' begins this latest mid-tempo tune from Mr. Wolf. A worthy follow-up to 'Lycanthropy' and 'Wind In The Trees', see Wolf on tour in October. XXXXx

Keane -
Nothing In My Way

new single 30 October

A slower more refined listen from Keane, 'Nothing In My Way' is the third single to be lifted from second album 'Under The Iron Sea'. Cord -
Other People's Lives

new album 18 Sept

CORD are classy with sophisticated production and yet somehow edgy ... the lyrical phrasing gives them the shine over rivals like Keane ... CORD played the Cardiff Festival 5pm Saturday slot and 500 were left bemused. A return to Cardiff Barfly next Sunday 1 October should be a fine musical occasion. This album is worth buying if only for the brilliantly 'chilling' tale of love lost 'Winter' XXXXx

My Alamo -
1994
new single in October
South Wales / Brum band My Alamo debut single is worth a Top Thirty slot. '1994' recorded at Mighty Atom in Swansea with producer Joe Gibbs of Funeral For A Friend and Jane's Addiction credit, is a chomping mid paced rocker with a dark edge. For many years great rock bands from South Wales wouldn't get a look in, thankfully that's changed and My Alamo should have no trouble following FFAF and Lostprophets up the ladder. XXXXx
