Sohodolls -
No Regrets
new single 30 October
Sohodolls have got it in abundance. And great management carefully plotting the strategy to make this band number one. Maya, Ana, Toni & Gavin - two guys two gals came up with the jaw dropping 'Stripper' a year back and since then they've moved within striking distance of the front line - Hugh Hefner's Playboy party in August! This is great, well worthy - see them at Cardiff Barfly on Wednesday 25th October. XXXXx

Beck -
The Information

new album 2 October

Thoroughly excellent from start to finish. 'Cell Phone's Dead', the edgy funked up 'Nausea'. How does Beck transcend cool, his records are always original. It's so difficult to be original when so many things are derivative but Hansen seems to manage it effortlessly. Robotic riffs, Beck's unique rapping, never been done before visuals and a groundbreaking live show. XXXXx

The Hustle -
Good Intentions EP

out on myspace now

"The Hustle is a retro funk rock band based in South Wales.

The Hustle blend rock, disco and soul with contemporary indie to create a unique yet accessible sound". This is a powerful Welsh heritage sound great riffing and funky bassing with a medium pace backbeat. Three fine recordings on their myspace site. Good stuff. XXXx

Boy Kill Boy -
Shoot Me Down

new single 6 November

'Shoot Me Down' is the fourth single lifted from Boy Kill Boy's debut album 'Civilian'. The follow-up to 'Suzie' and 'Civil Sin' is a more mellowed affair and shows another dimension to this band who are surely headed for pop's mainstream. See them on tour throughout October including dates on Oct 23 at London Astoria and Oct 25 at Bristol Corn Exchange. XXXx

Dorp -
London Out There

new single 9 October

'Grinding Glam Punk' a fusion of UK Rock with French Techno, how about

their image - reminiscent of Devo.
'London Out There' is a really catchy tune, a contagious critique of the capital's merciless momentum. XXX

Fortune Drive -
Recent Advances Vol II
new single 23 October
Bristol five piece Fortune Drive have a remarkably updated Oasis type sound here, with a Doves like 'Pounding' drum intro to 'To The Rye' which works a treat on the radio edit. 'Recent Advances' a firm live favourite
'a song about every night we've ever had where too much is not enough' . They've landed tour support for The Young Knives throughout October and they'll be at Cardiff Barfly on Saturday 21 October. XXXX fortune.drive.com (Posted 10 Oct)
The Bluetones -
The Bluetones

new album 9 October

Now signed to Cooking Vinyl The Bluetones are returned with a great show at Cardiff Barfly -
click here for pics - and a great new single. 'My Neighbours House' tells the tale of disinterest in our neighbour's difficulties ... not liveaid like. Since they formed in Hounslow 1994, eight top twenty singles, three top ten albums ... they deserve to add to that tally here. XXXX bluetones.info (Posted 10 Oct)
Fatboy Slim -
Champion Sound (Remixes)
new single 6 November
The beat maestro returns with 'Champion Sound' mightily remixed from the 'Greatest Hits - Why Try Harder' CD. Five mixes here, all useful on the dancefloor including the accapella. Female vocals by Sharon Woolf who sang on the 1999 number one hit 'Sweet Like Chocolate' - Fatboy Slim rocks, take it from Slimboy Fat.

Klaxons -
Magick
new single 30 october
Much requested recently The Klaxons are heading into the upper echalons. The Indie 7"'s 'Gravity's Rainbow' and 'Atlantis To Interzone' have seen the band develop quite a demand. 'Magick' is a quirky bright track, as it says here "music to make girls mosh!". Top 30. XXXx

Starky -
Is This How It Ends

new single 6 November

Sydney four piece Starky have an attractive little ditty here and at 2'45" it should be easy to pick up airplay. 'Is This How It Ends' is doubled A'd with 'Hey Bang Bang' which has just been nominated for an ARIA (Australian Brit equivalent). Starky's self-titled debut album was recorded in an 18th century Georgian mansion on the Welsh west coast with Dave Eringa ... lookin' good.

The Hours -
Ali In The Jungle

new single 23 October

The Hours are Antony Genn and Martin Slattery, their debut album will be released in January and this is a pretty impressive taster 'Ali In The Jungle'. Yes that Ali and his famous fight in the jungle ... an insistant riff and a cleverly worked hook 'It's not how you start, it's how you finish' - maybe a little freudian something here. XXXx

Heaven 17 -
Temptation
new single 30 October
80's electro maestro's Heaven 17 release a Greatest Hits set which includes anthology material alongside all their hits. The original demo version of their 1983 Top 3 hit 'Temptation' is included and perhaps not surprisingly sounds a little more like Soft Cell than you'd expect .. radically different from the eventual single which is also includede here. Slayer -
Eyes Of The Insane

new single

Slayer's latest album 'Christ Illusion' was recorded in Los Angeles with Josh Abraham of Velvet Revolver production fame with Rick Rubin overseer. 'Eyes Of The Insane' is surprisingly mid paced and possibly their most commercial offering to date. A band with a massive and loyal following built on the success of their nine top metal albums. XXXx

Twisted Charm -
Boring Lifestyles

new single 20 November

London underground label Alt> (Alt Delete) along with Because Music (new home of Jarvis Cocker) have signed this edgy new outfit Twisted Charm. 'A new wave inspired expunging of the frustrations that seethe within provincial life ....'. Boring Lifestyles' is a memorable single which stands out from the pack and is different enough to hit. Lorraine -
Heaven (Dub)
no release planned
The song has rather disappeared but this is as the label says a fine funky electro workout .. listen out for it and watch out for it.
Lorraine have had to move from their homeland to gain recognition, lead singer Ole Gunderson told me of their trek around Europe chasing a record deal. 'I Feel It' was a deserved top thirty hit, this their third single - a cover of The Psycadelic Furs 'Heaven' could become a fine crossover pop hit .XXXx
