Orson -
Happiness
new single 7 August
Orson can pen a good tune, it's guitar based pop but they make it sound so easy. Respect to Hollywood boys who came to UK and conquered. They've landed support on the Robbie
("Lord forgive me, I know not what I do") Williams Sin Sin Sin tour, the V Festival and their own headline tour in October. Busy days for Orson The Band and a simple and effective vid really hammers home a fine thought - 'Happiness'. XXXX www.orsonband.com (Posted 24 Jul)
The Crimea -
Baby Boom
new single 21 August
I shall always remember interviewing Davey Crockett aka Davey Crimea
aka Davey McManus in 2001, after a blistering stage show, he was kinda slumped between the floor and the bar exhausted but mentally as sharp as a guilloteen. A published author with a great band behind him 'Baby Boom' is an ironic lullaby, almost. It's as almost as Morrissey, there's always a new twist waiting to be discovered and this deserves Top Ten. Pearl Jam -
Life Wasted
new single 28 August
Plenty of pent up energy and enthusiasm here, Pearl Jam have been a little sluggish on the release front but they're back with a 'hot-rockin' 141bpm stormer. Recorded by Adam Casper at Studio X in Seattle with words by singer Eddie Vedder and music by guitarman Stone Gossard, 'Life Wasted' is raunchy as f**k that kinda sums it up - Top Five - see Pearl Jam support U2 in Hawaii.

Eagles Of Death Metal -
I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)
new single 28 August
Jonny Xplosure told me recently how The Eagles Of Death Metal had just rested the honour of most troublesome gig of his career from Northern Uproar (who?) .. he wouldn't go into detail - oh the stress. I don't know why, they sound like such wholesome boys, 'I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)' - well it's like rockabilly death metal, quite a novelty - a good listen, see them on tour with ... Peaches!

She Wants Revenge -
new album 24 July
She Wants Revenge have come up with an album full of really challenging material ... and I'm not sure I like it ... it's very in your face ... very psychotic, cold, machinelike, feelingless. Packed with edgy venom and double entendre. Musically it's a variation on the old electro of Human League, Depeche Mode except this has real bite. I'm not sure that these guys shouldn't be locked up. 'Tear You Apart' and 'Out Of Control' have been massive hits on LA's indie/rock KROQ for months - She Wants Revenge have supported Bloc party,
The Kills, The Killers and not so surprisingly Depeche Mode. Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin formed She Wants Revenge in 2003 to make hip-hop but their plans changed and evolved into something quite different. Warfield has sung with The Chemical Brothers, Prince Paul and Bomb The Bass and Bravin has helped Dr Dre, Rakim and Tha Alkaholiks as well as being a renowned LA hip hop DJ for many years. There's great potential for a Friday 13th style live show with material un-nerving as this. XXXXx www.shewantsrevenge.com (Posted 24 Jul)
Animal Liberation Orchestra/Jack Johnson -
Girl I Wanna Lay You Down
new single 21 August
Re-released and ALO are going to have a hit with this fine gentle US West Coast soft rocker ... starring Jack Johnson. This is a groovy love thang type song made for warm Summer nights, the perfect mood setter for ... oysters and more!

The Young Knives -
Weekends & Bleak Days (Hot Summer)
new single 14 August
Yep - 'Hot Summer, what a bummer!' - 'Bummer' as used in The Stranglers 'Peaches' seems mainstream now, an ode to 'skiving off work' ... the revolution's here down the pub
. Oh it's a fine pop song, just like the brilliant 'She's Attracted To' andf The Young Knives are successfully coming up with different angles, as one of my bosses would have put it. XXXXx www.theyoungknives.com (Posted 24 Jul)
The Futureheads -
Worry About It Later

new single 31 July

Following the 120bpm 'Skip To The End' here comes the second single from 'News & Tributes' - the rather more frenetic and pacey 158bpm 'Worry', with more urgent yodelling and minor-key harmonies it's a surefire hit ... The Proclaimers have their boots on ready for battle.

Keane -
Crystal Ball
new single 21 August
Keane's follow-up to 'Is It Any Wonder' should see them again cracking the Top Ten. 'Crystal Ball' establishing them further as a mainstream pop act, Keane have just announced a full UK tour in October - starting at Hull Arena on the 17th, then Manchester, Aberdeen, reading, Wolverhampton, Plymouth, Brighton and Ally Pally London.
You can also see them at the V Festival in Chelmsford and Stafford. XXx www.keanemusic.com (Posted 24 Jul)
The Feeling -
Never Be Lonely

new single 28 August

'Twelve Stops And Home' one of the most loved albums of the year has provided The Feeling with their launch into chartville - 'Sewn' and 'Fill My little World' both hitting the Top Ten. 'Never Be lonely' if anything is even more commercially minded and should do even better. SeeThe Feeling headline their own tour in November - starting in Brum onthe 1st Nov and taking in Cardiff University on the 12th November.

Coheed & Cambria -
Ten Speed (of God's Blood & Burial)

new single 28 August

C&C have scored a great record here, a punchy 158bpm - an unravel the mystery type lyric - I suspect this is part of a longer sequence of songs. either way it's the most pop C&C have been and we love it!.

Bullet For My Valentine -
Tears Don't Fall
new single 17 July
Cool Cymru isn't in it but another Welsh band are in the charts at No. 37 while the Lostprophets are at No. 32. This is metal mayhem, a very nice guitar intro before the war.
Congratulations to the Bridgend band who just supported Chimaira on the UK tour. it's worth noting South Wales was hitless from Racing Cars in 1977 until The Darling Buds in 1989 - now however Welsh metal angst has been unleashed. XXXXx www.bulletformyvalentine1.com (Posted 24 Jul)
Hatebreed -
Supremacy
new album 28 August
Frontman Jamey Jasta - you may know as the host of MTV's Headbangers ball - slaps his trademark vox all over this metal monster. Grammy nominated in 2005 new titles include 'Destroy Everything', 'Immortal Enemies', 'As Diehard As They Come' 'Supremacy Of Self' and 'Divine Judgement'.

Matt Costa -
Sweet Thursday
new single7 Aug
23 year old Matt Costa played a sell-out Mad4it! last month - check the pics here - since then he's made his primetime US TV debut scoring improved success for his debut album 'Songs We Sing'. From it came the hit 'Cold December' and now the 'Sweet Thursday'
with it's crunchy Beetlebum type riff. But for a car accident when he was 19 Matt would probably be a skateboarding hero, thanks to his producer No Doubt's Tom Dumont he's chartbound again. XXXXx www.mattcosta.com (Posted 24 Jul)
Stone Sour -
Come What (Ever) May

new album 31 July

Here's another great chunk of powerful metal recorded in Dave grohl's home studio no less. Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor will be guiding you through a week of specials on Radio One, Xfm, Kerrang Radio, MTV Takeover ... to launch the album - well worthy
. XXXX www.stonesour.com (Posted 24 Jul)
The Basement -
I Just Caught A Face

new single 3 July - new album 17 July

Irish band The Basement’s debut album 'Illicit Hugs & Playground Thugs' has just been released through Deltasonic Records on CD and 12” vinyl and features the fine accoustic fold type song 'I Just Caught A Face'.
Expect a follow-up and new tour dates soon. XXXx www.thebasement.co.uk/ (Posted 24 Jul)
Terror -
Always The Hard Way

new album 24 July

Very very ... fourteen tracks here, the longest the finale 'Smash Through You' pulling in at 2mins 30secs and 125bpm
. Gruesome, gory metal adventurous to cluster so many short pieces together - With titles like 'All For Revenge', 'strike You Down' and 'Last Of the Diehards' perfect for a seedy x rated website. XXX www.terrorhc.com (Posted 24 Jul)
