New CD's reviewed below - The Common Redstarts, Fatboy Slim, Paramore, TNO |
Fatboy Slim - That Old Pair Of Jeans new single 12 June Hard to believe cuddly Norm was one of The Housemartins, who created Happy Hour, went on to be Beats International, get a number one with the baked beans girl Lindi Layton by nicking a clash bassline and combining it with an SOS Band soul classic Just Be Good To Me. 'Jeans' is another dancey mish mash of influences pulling in at 90bpm which pre-empts the Greatest Hits collection 'Why Try Harder' due a week later. Include on the single CD are a couple of Right Here Right Now mixes Radanka 128bpm and Freemasons 126bpm, a strange Mike D & Adrock remix of Praise You and Plump DJ's 133bpm remix of Everybody Needs A 303. Big in the Box!!! XXXx www.fatboyslim.net (Posted 7 May) |
Paramore - All We Know new single 8 May This is an interesting prospect .. a five piece from Tennessee led by seventeen year old Hayley Williams. Charlotte Church could learn a rock thang or two here. Explosive is a good descriptive word for their first single, on download only and available now .. the whole album 'All We Know Is Falling' is available on CD, you may have seen these guys supporting Story Of The Year. Three more words to describe the band ... energy - emotion - fun ... a fine single and song, a pounding rock 158bpm and great vocals too! XXXX www.paramore.net (Posted 8 May) |
TNO - Kfagith / Acuta new demo "Play this" came the customery metal order and I might have as there was about twelve of Risca's TNO (Trust No One) clan at large, except the computer generated CD they brought in was unplayable on Meze Lounge's state of the art Pioneer double CD DJ deck. If you like hard metal you should give these guys a chance, this is hard and their mission staement 'to be the heaviest and most metal band ever'. Fans of Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, Shadows Fall, Biffy Clyro, Slayer .... two tracks at their myspace site recorded at Newport's Nottin Pill studios are challenging material, they should be lobbying the ears of Roadrunner Records. The Common Redstarts - album promo tbc This Edinburgh combo have some attitude and a fine sense of drama too. Three tracks previewed her include the stormer "this ain't good, but this is funny 'Disorganised Violence' which after the drama of the supenseful almost spoken intro registers 143bpm. You'll become familiar with the fast and frentic 194bpm 'Save It For Your Friends' if you have Sky TV - they're using this song in their promo 'Sky Sports - Summer of Football' and the third track takes a lead from the Dead Kennedy's 'Too Drunk Too F**k' heres' The Redstarts 'Too Drunk To Fight' 132bpm - Nice work, a good start.
