This week's post ...

Bearcraft
The Werewolf
new single 26 April 2010
An adventurous prospect this, at 3'40" - 'The Werewolf', kinda gently understated, tasty production, bass, keyboards... I can see sweet radio edit remix
potential... interesting.

Black Gold
Shine
new single 17 May 2010
"Won't you shine tonight, won't you shine in the face of the light, with you on my mind I can make it through, make it through the night, through this life" Brooklyn band Black Gold currently toruing with The Pixies and Echo & The Bunnymen and climbing the US charts with their anthemic 'Shine'. Their single package is like a mini album with twelve mixes - the original varied by StoneBridge, Dave Aude and Evil Nine each with handy three minute radio edits and a couple of instrumentals. These guys could follow Daughtry and The Fray into the UK top twenty with this tune which won't sound out of place on any decent pop radio. Hit!

Daisy Dares You
Album Sampler
new album due 2010
"Daisy Daisy Daisy's gonna take off..." Yep thanks Chippy and you were lookin cool too... Seriously, 'Number One Enemy' is such a storming pop song, the chorus so catchy it's taken Daisy to just outside the top ten... she should have been top five really. This collection of six songs consolidates the notion that Daisy will be rather more than a one hit wonder. There's a surprising depth to these tunes exemplified on the wonderful 'Stuck & Still'. Other appetite and pant whetting titles include 'Who Will Buy', 'Talk About The Weather', 'Next Few Minutes' and 'Rosie'. Great material.

Fitness Club Fiasco
Forest City
new single
Fitness Club Fiasco have come up with a witty little track here, 'Forest City' brimming with innuendo... a semi electro chugger of a pop tune suggests much potential for this outfit. Excellent.

Lisa Mitchell
Oh! Hark! Remixes
new single 12 April 2010
More femme fatale ... loving the remixes... 'Ou Est Le Swimming Pool' have created a montage of sound with a splurge of teasing vocals, then there's the 'Sound Of Arrows Remix' - an all together more mellow affair followed by the up-tempo bassy electro of the 'Oh Giantess Remix'. 19 year old Lisa Mitchell is joining the queue and 'Oh! Hark!' has I am sure a rather hard edginess to it .. beguiling and bemusing ... there's a few words in here which are rather challenging .. did I hear properly ... good but not as good as Eliza, Daisy or Uffie. Chart chance

Marina & The Diamonds
I Am Not A Robot Remixes
new single 26 April 2010
Here comes another chart attack from Marina's top debut album. 'I Am Not A Robot' should follow 'Hollywood' in with ease and especially with an intriguing array of mixes... the pounding trademark Flex'D Rework Passion Pit Remix with strangely worked vocal, the tasty chunky six minute Penguin Prison Remix, the up-tempo electro of the Starsmith 24 Carrot Remix, The Fool's Gold Remix (sounding nothing like Stone Roses, more like 80's hip-hop in part than a James Brown backbeat) and last but not least The Doorly Remix. Six times the fun Marina is hot and raising temps plus everywhere including Hollyweird. Top 20 again!!!

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 21 Mar 10
How d'you make Lady GaGa angry?
Pok 'er Face!

Given the way the singles chart has gone in recent years... from 20 new tunes per week in the 90's and early 00's to an average five new entries each week now - it's all the more remarkable Lady GaGa has claimed her fourth UK number one. 'Telephone' has been available since her 'Fame Monster' album repackaging was launched four or five months back but now with a handsome batch of remixes - each of which is top quality - she's climbed from 12 to the top of the singles the same week as 'Fame Monster' goes back to the top of the album chart and former number one 'Bad Romance' moves back up three to 21. The only mixed news on the awkward GaGa's horizon is the legal action for royalties by her former producer.

Good news for Schools Minister and would be Chancellor Ed Balls and his wifey Yvette Cooper - Skepta is the latest of London's 'Grime' artists to make the top forty - 'Bad Boy' in at 26 - this means the Grime collectives' close association with government initiatives hasn't blown their credibility with their own fans completely.

This weeks new Glee Cast hit is .... 'True Colours' in at 35 while Cheryl Cole 'Fight For This Love' returns at 40 and Sidney Samson's 'Riverside' is back at 39.

Rihanna's 'Rude Boy' goes top Stateside while reaching a high of 2 in the UK.

3 new entries & 2 re-entries - 11 up, 20 down, 4 non-movers

Welsh jobs ditched
Posted Thursday 25th March 2010 - Source ITV
Richard Hooper (who?) has announced the contract for providing for ITV Wales news will go to... Northen Ireland... and Ulster TV. The Welsh bid wasn't good enough. I'm sure we could have found someone in our little country of two million people who for £6 million of Government dosh could have come up with something. Ulster TV own Swansea Sound and The Wave. The Tories say if they win the election they'll 'unpick the deal'.

British jobs Dutched
Posted Wednesday 24th March 2010 - Source Labour

How disappointing is this... the election hasn't yet been called and the Labour 'British Jobs For British Workers lie' party is after our votes... The above election communication indicates it's been sent by the MPs constituency office... but the constituency office don't know anything about it because it's come from Socialist Central Command. Well they've made their intentions clear... rather than support their own Union of Communications Workers and protect their UK jobs by sending their mail-outs with Royal Mail they're using the Dutch Company TNT - owned by the Dutch State... just as Labour 'allowed' the BBC's TV Licensing mail to go from Royal Mail to TNT... This arrangement saves senders 10p per letter, but Royal Mail still deliver the letters and get starved of revenue while scheming Hoon like creatures 'bluntly' pocket the 'money'.
Shame on them, shame on their lies.

Gig in a kitchen?
Posted Monday 22nd March 2010 - Source Radio One
What a treat, Radio One DJ Huw Stephens (son of Welsh Author and Journalist Meik Stephens - Literature Director of the Welsh Arts Council from 1967-1990) puts on a gig in his fellow Radio One Wales DJ/Producer Jen Long's kitchen... the aim of this Radio One Stories Show being to find out how easy it is to put a gig on in your kitchen???? Well I would guess it's gonna be a bit of a synch if you can offer BBC monopoly money, all the technical support required and precious airtime on the nation's biggest pop network... however if you've none of that going for you - don't hold your breath.
These kind of expensive 'wanky arty' forays into pretentious music journalese may be on the increase as the BBC feels pressure to show clear programming difference with it's commercial rivals - then again if the Tories win the election there will likely be big pressure to privatise Radio One.
With government institutions alert to the increasing chance of a new Conservative Government the BEEB haven't been the only department trying to head off trouble by making early changes.
Radio Two is showing the first major sign of change with Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie's shows cut from four to three nights a week - with the station to become 50% speech through daytime. Obviously the Heart's and Real's will benefit from this move. So the near million listeners who've deserted Chris Evans Radio 2 Breakfast Show won't be the only headache for Evans - there is a strong possibility the station will change it's music policy and format completely as it did when the Tories and ILR had their last rage against Radio Two in the 1980's. Back then after a futile struggle against bosses re-introducing the music of the 1940's and 1930's David Hamilton and sale-able music had to concede and retreat.
The commercial radio industry has forever moaned it can't compete with the BBC - xplosure contends it's because many stations are just plain boring, totally predictable.
However it does appear that Murdoch, News International and their commercial radio chums would appear to have gained an early upperhand in BEEB battering...

Gig in a lobby?
Posted Monday 22nd March 2010 - Source Channel 4
Thank you Channel 4 Dispatches... are you working for the EU in trying to finish our UK democracy...
... because here comes the strangely forseen Lobbying Scandal... forseen by David 'Dad to be for a 4th time' Cameron on 12 February...??? How did he know that then...? Did Channel 4 give him the nod?
It seems that as with the expenses scandal MPs and former Ministers are for hire like 'cabs', but if you haven't got £3-5k a day don't bother looking for help in that direction.
These in the main, Labour people give the impression they are so corrupt they've forgotten what corruption is ... never mind all the broken election promises from 1997, 2001 and 2005....
What can possibly redeem Geoff Hoon... Defence Minister responsible for ensuring our soldiers have the right equipment... failing miserably and then wanting £3k per day on the back of his shortcomings - a snip at around half the £5k per day for which the useless former Transport Minister Steven Byers can be hired.
It's cringingly embarrassing to see the cream of Government talent reveal themselves as unprincipled lowlife and worse... Hoon, Hewitt, Byers, Moran and the Tory bloke appear so stupid their greed blinds them to Channel 4's use of surely one of the least convincing actresses.

Historian David Starkey on BBC1's Question Time last week was in no doubt of the Brown Gang's performance ... 'criminal negligence' he said.
