This week's post ...

Amy MacDonald
Don't Tell Me That It's Over
new single 8 March 2010
Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Bono and live sessioning on the first Simon Mayo Radio Two Drivetime Show ... Amy's back. 'Don't Tell That It's Over' is a fine return to the limelight with Amy's trademark vocal and an upbeat tune which should easily garner the ears of the converted and win many more fans too. Hit bound for sure.

Caesar & Robyn
I Blame Coco
new single 1 February 2010
Phooo .. what a superb track. Robyn since her pop princess arrival in the nineties has frequently raised the bar with unusual and eclectic variety .. this time there's a Cure 'A Forest' like rhythm track and accompanying vocals ... a great record and deserving of success.

Chapel Club
O Maybe I
new single
What a surprise .. a lush lyric and vocal .. sauntering romantic dreamery of sorts ... very impressive .. hope this gets lots of airplay and strikes gold. Great record.

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip
Get Better
new single release date to be confirmed
Growing all the time - liking the concise radio edit muchly - bodes well for an intriguing new album. Interesting to hear Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip elocuting what a ppears to be part of a far right wing education policy, although I doubt they will have made the connection. In fact I doubt few will have even read it. Suffice it to say, if it's important enough for Dan & Scroobius to write about it sooner or later some will. Then again no one likes being lectured, so I don't know ... hit maybe ... ideally anonymous low cost wisdom for Radio One so maybe a hit.

Lady GaGa & Beyonce
Telephone
new single release date to be confirmed
Requests coming in for this, it's already made the top forty on downloads when The Fame Monster was released ... with Beyonce's help on it's physical release 'Telephone could easily become Gaga's 4th No.1 ... a fine song

Marina & The Diamonds - Remixes
Hollywood
new single 1 February 2010
Likin' the French Solar & Juan Maclean Mixes most .. Marina's on the way with her radio friendly single version of 'Hollywood' and it's our record of the week so here's hoping for top forty 'Hollywood'!!

Placebo
Bright Lights - Randomer Remix
new single
Cool, nice rimshot type sound. Placebo deserve a top forty tune again and this track and it's mixes from their excellent album may just turn the trick for them . hope so.

Stereophonics
Could You Be The One
new single
Hmmm ... I'm gonna eat my original words on this track ... it's a real grower and I've grown to really like it. Far more subtle a Stereophonics track you'd be hard to find .. Kelly's "tried to make it beautiful" and he's gone some way to creating a romantic bent love song that worms it's way into your melody mind and endears itself with it's yearning... They really deserve a top twenty success with this song. Well done Kelly

Steve Aoki & Zuper Blahq
I'm In The House
new single 1 March 2010
Here's a footstomping track that deserves a shot at the big time .. can't help thinking it would be a good song for Basshunter to cover when he comes down from Katland. A whole load of fine remixes provide a variety of play-out potential and come March 'I'm In The House' could be. Good tune. Here's more from the PR
"America’s biggest superstar DJ, producer, and fashion mogul, Steve Aoki, teams up with Zuper Blahq, the new electro project of Will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas. ‘I’m In The House’ has been a club anthem for the past few months and is already receiving daytime spins on Radio 1 and Kiss, with everyone from Pete Tong to Fearne Cotton leading the charge.
A party-starting, floor shaking riot of electro riffs and thumping bass, crowned with Zuper Blahq’s call-to-arms vocal, ‘I’m In The House’ is helping kick start the USA’s dance revolution, with the likes of Steve’s DJ sets and Zuper Blahq’s music getting America’s rave on like never before. What was once a barely coastal club/circuit scene, with few national beacons in between, is fast turning into a nation under a very different groove, as both hip hop and rock stars alike turn to dance music for inspiration.
Steve is the biggest DJ in America, and the man behind Dim Mak Records who released artists like Bloc Party, The Kills, Klaxons, MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, Mystery Jets, and The Gossip. As Weird Science he’s remixed Peaches, Snoop Dogg and Bloc Party, and under his own name, Aoki has remixed The Killers, Robin Thicke, Lenny Kravitz, Duran Duran, Timbaland, and many more. In the past he has collaborated with artists including Boys Noize, The Bloody Beetroots, and Junkie Xl. Also involved in fashion, Aoki has developed lines for KR3W Apparel, Supra Footwear, headphones for WESC, sunglasses with KSUBI, and a brand new men’s/women’s range with his supermodel sister, Devon. He also co-owns a restaurant with Mark Ronson.
Zuper Blahq is a new electro house project from a certain well-known US musician and pop star. Details are thin on the ground and, as yet, nobody has come forward to claim the persona as their own. That said, a good internet search will reveal some intriguing possibilities…
The remix package is killer too with a dirty dubstep meets electro soundclash from The Count aka Hervé , Redlight's workout does some serious damage for the crack-house circuit, Qemist rework 'I'm In The House' into a DnB stormer, while Gigi Barocco delivers big time on the electro-house front.

Tanashe
Maybe
new single
H2010's got off to a good start, here's another top new release this time from Tanashe. 'Mayday' is full of exuberance and bursting from the speakers .. top track...
useful mixes .. deserves success.

Twin Atlantic
Lightspeed
new single 8 March
HIt's sometimes difficult to carry your own accent into the art you're delivering, ask Dr David Tennant Who. Twin Atlantic have come up with a joyful uplifting pop
tune in 'Lightspeed' full of a blissfully rich Scottish accented delivery. It's a bright sometimes disjointed affair which creates a rather unique atmosphere and could be different enough to go big time.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 10 Jan 10
Iyaz beat Sidney Samson to land the UK's first new number one of 2010. 'Inside' is high on America's Hot 100 while Sid's 'Riverside, Let's Go' has been a floorfiller for the best part of a year. Newly engaged Katy Perry climbs to 3 with the help of 3OH!3 on 'Starstrukk' admid her hopes of "multiplying" her publicity machinery with her impending marital union with Russell Brand... wonder what her ex-beau Travis Gym Class Heroes makes of it?

Usher's prodigy 15 year old Justin Beiber is the UK's highest new entry at 14 with his debut 'One Time' - it goes to show the value of the strong YouTube demos he launched that attracted Justin Timberlake & Usher to rush to sign him with Usher winning the battle - 'Yeah'.

Wiley climbs 2 to 20 or The Mighty Wiley as Reg Yates refers to him ... surely he must be impressing Schools Secretary Ed Balls enough to follow Kano promoting the Labour Government plans to replace GCSE's & A-Levels with Diplomas.

South Wales Lostprophets are in at 32 'Where We Belong', Florence & The Machine get a second tune in with 'Dog Days Are Over' at 23 and there are re-entries from La Roux, Thirty Seconds From Mars and Paulo Nutini's 'Pencil Full Of Lead' - and Paulo deserves a mention for holding top of the Album Chart for a second week.

3 new entries & 3 re-entries – 12 up, 21 down, 1 non-mover

ITV news said there were cheers in some parts of the BBC when JR announced his resignation ... ITV are also saying money was the root of the evil with Ross being made a "derisory pay offer" - an 80% pay cut ... that would mean a reduction from £18,000,000.00 for three years work to a meagre £3,600,000.00 ... he must be on the bones of his a*se. JR's shiny new series of Friday Night With begins on Friday 15th January with Ray Winstone's goss about his new flick '44 Inch Chest'.

Swine Flu-ed yet?
Posted Friday 8 January 2010
60,000 deaths they said ...
"The government is making plans to offload millions of doses of swine flu vaccine amid predictions a "third wave" of the pandemic is unlikely to happen.
Officials are in discussion with manufacturer GSK over contracts for remaining doses purchased by the UK.
Options include selling surplus vaccine and donating it to poorer countries but a stockpile will remain in place.
Cases of swine flu have now dropped dramatically to well below what is usually seen in winter flu outbreaks."

Shaky .. shakin'
Posted Tuesday 12 January 2010 - Source BBC.co.uk
Former pop star Shakin' Stevens has been found guilty of hitting a press photographer with a microphone stand.
The Cardiff-born singer, whose real name is Michael Barrett, was convicted of assaulting Hugo McNeice during a concert at a hotel in Ballymena.
The 61-year-old was fined £300 for assault and criminal damage and ordered to pay the photographer £479 to compensate for his smashed camera lens.
His solicitor said the singer was disappointed and intended to appeal.
He maintained that "he is innocent of the charges brought".
Mr McNeice said he was "glad it's all over", adding that all he ever wanted was compensation for his broken camera lens.
He had been taking photographs of the singer during a concert at the Tullyglass Hotel in Ballymena, County Antrim, in December 2008.
The trial heard Stevens danced his way towards Mr McNeice, who thought the singer was about to give him "a nice tight shot".
Instead, Stevens pushed his microphone stand into his camera, leaving the photographer "shocked and embarrassed".
Shakin' Stevens was one of the top-selling UK male artists of the 1980s, with hits including Green Door, This Ole House and Merry Christmas Everyone.

New 2 & Five Live
Posted Monday 11 January 2010
Our car bump fleeing while mobile phone using Minister of Equalities Harriet Harperson recently attacked the BBC for dispensing with talented female broadcasters before their sell-by date.... and as if by magic today Moira Stewart, a
spring chick of 60 returned to the Beeb to join Chris Evans new Radio Two Breakfast Show. This is the usual selective memory rubbish spouted from Harperson who has singularly failed to notice 67 year old Grannie Nightingale has been retained by BBC Radio One for more than forty years despite the station's target audience being 0-25 year olds.
New shows on Radio 2 and Five Live began with Chris Evans at 7am ... what to play for first record ... The Beatles ... good choice and second record ... The Beatles ... a little more difficult to predict 'All You Need Is Love' segued into 'Good Morning Sunshine' but then again the beauty of it is .. it's obvious when you think about it. Evans who began his Radio One Breakfast Show with features like 'On The Bog' took a more measured approach with the 'What Have You Got On (clothes) & What Have You Got On (in your diary)' listener call-in spot. So kids and Grans will be made welcome with an eclectic bunch of tunes picked from fifty years of pop history celebrating Radio 2's diversity.
Next new on Radio 2 .. Simon Mayo 5-7pm ... first moments ... highlighted positivity through a lyrical analasis of a Prince Buster tune into a new version of his 'Banana Boat Song' jingle ... 'Mayo, Simon Mayo, Drivetime come and we wan' go home' and into his first two records proper Bruce Springsteen 'Born To Run' and Sniff & The Tears 'Drivers Seat' .. and alongside the business news and homework help a live session from Amy MacDonald.
Mayo moved to Radio 2 following his decision not to move to Manchester with Five Live where he's been Afternoon Show host since leaving radio One in 2001. Consequently a new Five Live schedule was launched today with new entry Gabby Logan from 12-2pm and high climber Richard Bacon 2-4pm ... Bacon's first show led with future Prime Minister??? Conservative Leader David Cameron.
A busy BBC radio day.

Welsh based Marina Diamandis aka Marina & The Diamonds came a close second, her new single and vid 'Hollywood' released 18 January 2010 is looking hitbound.

Evans v Moyles
Posted Sunday 10 January 2010
Round 2 begins Monday with Moyles competition winners join his gang go-karting and the like ... Evans is going to create a non offensive "family show" with fifty years of music to which all are welcome ... and he gets an extra half an hour. Evans arguably won Round One some years back when he first recruited Moyles to host an early evening TV show Ginger had been contracted to create ... and after a couple of months sacked him replacing him with Christian O'Connell ... A couple of weeks ago Evans went on record saying Moyles was past it for Radio One's audience .... Moyles must surely be favourite to lead Radio One to a ratings advantage over Radio 2 for the first time since 1993 as the Terrys Old Geezers jump ship ... tough at the top eh? surf onto Evans BBC site here

Cops warn Klass
Posted Monday 11 January 2010
Celebrity mum Myleene Klass is "aghast" after being warned by police for waving a knife at teenagers who entered her garden. The TV star and Marks & Spencer model was in her kitchen, with her daughter upstairs, when she spotted people peering into her window just after midnight on Friday. She grabbed a knife and banged the windows before they ran away. Hertfordshire Police officers warned Klass she should not have used a knife to scare off the teens because carrying an "offensive weapon" - even in her own home - was illegal. surf onto sky news story here

Agent Kano
From The Sunday Times - Sunday 10 January 2010
The schools secretary, Ed Balls, has enlisted a rapper famous for his violent and obscenity-strewn lyrics to promote diplomas, Labour’s alternatives to GCSEs and A-levels.
Kano, a “grime” star who sprang to fame in 2005, has produced a new song and video, released for free download today, which pupils studying for the qualifications have helped to produce. The song, More Than One Way, has been featured by the Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe in his “hottest record in the world today” slot.
The song’s lyrics are mild by Kano’s standards — although it does include a reference to Gordon Ramsay and “The F Word” — but the choice of Kano, 24, is likely to prove controversial given his previous work such as Ghetto Kid.
That included lines such as: “Don’t f*** with me / I’ve got my knife and I could get a nine milli [9mm pistol] / And niggas know I’m blowin’ up shows like a terrorist."
Balls’s choice of Kano, born Kane Brett Robinson in East Ham, east London, is an unlikely embracing by the Establishment of a form of music once seen as the preserve of alienated black youth.
Kano’s decision to support the government’s exams may not help his street credibility, but the singer said this weekend he wanted to remind young people that school gave them an alternative to a violent future — it includes the line “my weapon is my pen”.
He said he wanted to “inspire people, but not in a way that’s patronising and preachy”.
He said his often violent and obscene lyrics were not intended to glorify what they depicted. “I am like a lot of my listeners — it’s a dialogue I have with them,” said Kano, who will soon release a new album. “We are like poets — it’s commentary on what we see. We act as a mirror. We reflect what is going on out there.
“It’s from things I’ve been through, things my friends have been through, things I’ve seen on the street.”
The production team for the video included teenagers from schools including Lister community school in Plaistow, east London, and Notre Dame high school in Norwich.
Diplomas have been a personal cause of Balls, intended to combine vocational and academic study. They made a slow start, with fewer pupils than hoped for signing up, but about 36,000 are now taking part.
They have been accompanied by heavy promotion, including Kano’s video, which will be shown in television advertisements starting today.
Students on creative and media diplomas helped to film the video, while those on hair and beauty courses worked in make-up, and construction pupils helped to build the set.
Jake Williams, an information technology student at Lister school, said working on the video was “really exciting”.
Kano’s early successes came in 2005 when he won a Mobo award for best newcomer. He was nominated for a Brit the following year and his album Home Sweet Home was a critical triumph. His biggest-selling single has been This Is the Girl, which reached No 18.
