Hot Chip
One Life Stand
new album 1 February 2010
Hot Chip return with a considered ten track electro pop masterpiece. 'One Life Stand' has ten individually charactered tracks not least the floorfilling title track. Since 'Over & Over' first captured dancefloors and Hot Chip created a demand for their re-mixing abilities they've developed into the direct descendents of eighties electro masters Erasure. Top album .. top ten for months.

Gaggle
I Hear Flies
new single 8 March 2010
This is a quite bizarre sonic experience which must be somewhat accurately descriptive of the bulk of weekend revellers
"GAGGLE – the 20 strong all female choir - release their debut single ‘I Hear Flies’ on March 8th through Transgressive Records. Led by Deborah Coughlin, the girls unleash chaotic chants of “I’m a Drunk” over dark, dubby beats. Backed by the equally arresting ‘I Like Cigarettes’, GAGGLE have brought us the first truly original single of 2010." So different this could catch on big.

These New Puritans
We Want War
new single 18 January 2010
Here's 'We Want War', a seven minute declaration from These New Puritans marking the first next step since ‘Beat Pyramid’ infiltrated the minds and hearts of people yearning to find a band who would
'challenge, perplex and mesmerise in equal measure'. More subtle than Arcade Fire and produced by These New Puritans's Jack Barnett and Graham Sutton (Bark Psychosis, Boymerang) and mixed by Dave Cooley (J Dilla, MF DOOM) their new album 'Hidden' draws equally on on the rhythmic lexicons of dancehall and 20th century post-minimalism, with instrumentation redolent of both the oceanic brass of Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes and the plastic textures of modern U.S. pop. It is sometimes brutal, sometimes melancholy, and sounds like nothing else. 'Hidden' features six-foot Japanese Taiko drums, a thirteen piece brass and woodwind ensemble, sub-heavy beats, prepared piano, a children's choir, Foley recording techniques (including a melon with cream crackers attached struck by a hammer, used to simulate the sound of a human head being smashed), and the ethereal voice of Heather Marlatt from dream-pop group Salem.
Live dates:
1/2 Brighton Audio
2/2 Birmingham Hare and Hounds
3/2 Manchester Deaf Institute
4/2 Glasgow Captains Rest
5/2 Newcastle Jukebox
6/2 Leeds Brudnell Social Club

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 24 Jan 10
Owl City does the Transatlantic double topping the UK Top 40 as he did America's Hot 100 last November, and it's good to see 'Fireflies' a good old fashioned pop song at the pinnacle.

Florence & The Machine's 'Lungs' tops the UK Album Chart while Ke$ha gets a fourth week on top of the US Hot 100.

New entries from Example, Girls Can't Catch, Jay Sean, Pitbull and another comedy nugget from the Glee Cast, the Rihanna song 'Take A Bow'.

5 new entries - 9 up, 24 down, 2 non-movers
