This week's post ...

Ash
War With Me
new single
Some tasty deep piano heralds the arrival of the latest Ash single - with distinctive trademark pleading vocals
"So why d'you wanna war with me?...". this is well up with their best songs and keep their hardcore following happy .. however it's going to be hard to break this through the new downloaded charts. Good song though.

Black Daniel
I Love You But Don't Touch Me 'Cos You're Sick
new single
Hmm mad clever ass title I thought .. I'm not going to like this ... surprise surprise this is not the first time Black Daniel has won me over within a minute or so - I suppose that makes me a bit of a fan. There's a crazy loose sounding production to this and Black Daniels' vocals are somewhat reminiscent of Lou Reed ... Both songs, the quaintly titled 'I Love You But Don't Touch Me 'Cos You're Sick' and 'Move Like Royalty' are strange shining gems .. the whole bizarre sound works brilliantly and the atmosphere is so off the wall it fires a genuine curiosity ... great work, deserves success.

The Constellations
Setback
new single 22 March 2010
You can hear Oasis and Beatles here, at first 'Setting Son' then very 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and then the vocals come in and there's a Tremeloes style 'ba ba ba ba' chorale ... nostalgia will certainly never go out of fashion and The Constellations hook into the 60's mood full-on. Radio friendly if at 5'24" a little too long and drawn out ... still they could win some important airplay and with the right remix ... hit maybe.

The Futureheads
Heartbeat Song
new single
Another trademark sound that should keep the army of Futureheads fans happy - I still get plenty of requests for 'Hounds Of Love' etc and they always do well on the dance floor. 'Heartbeat Song' is another slice of uptempo Scot Pop ... "I still want to sing with you... " and at 2'25" should easily pick up plenty of all important airplay ... I'd say Top 20 ... top track.

Infadels
Ghosts
new single 19 April 2010
Infadels were so unlucky they didn't have three massive top ten hits a couple of years back .. the long awaited return comes with new single 'Ghosts' on 19 April and it's another superb track. Many bands like Muse and Infadels seem to have an edgy politic to their writing as the name Infadels may suggest and 'Ghosts' lyric is another which proclaims
"This is the life, this is a curse, this is a turning point...". Not sure where it's all leading but it is I am sure another sublime message over a classic pop song rhythm track ... Great record can't wait for the new album 'We Are Not The Infadels'.

Mr Fog
Moving Parts
new single 5 April 2010
Hey this is a good tune and I would hazard a guess that Mr Fogg is quite a fan of Mr Owl City. Perhaps not as immediate as Owl's 'Fireflies' there's a very similar arrangement with interesting electronic rhythm and chimes .... dainty enchanting vocals .. did I say dainty? .. Yes dainty. Several remixes worthy of note .. the Rennie Pilgrim adds a thumpy beat for variety against the meandering four minute original ... I think with a little thought and a good edit this track could be better off around three mins or 3'30". Surprise hit maybe?

Marina & The Diamonds
The Family Jewels
new album 22 February 2010
Well Marina's got 'it', you know the shhh factor. Folowing the Brits appearance the excellent 'Hollywood' has shot back into the top twenty ... it's deserves top ten with it's excellent video an' all. Not many love songs on this album she says and with titles like 'I Am Not A Robot', 'The Outsider' and 'Hermit The Frog' you get the Marina picture.
"50% Greek 50% Welsh 100% frollicking fairytale creature..." One of the most interesting new artists.

Uffie
MC's Can Kiss - Mixes
new single
Great! More mixes of this superbly cocky track from Miss Paris ... Uffie. The original track is very in your face with aggressive rapped up vocals and a fantastically cheeky strage instrumentalist fade out ... it's great ... now accompanied by four more mixes, the 'Clean Version', 'Starkey Redid' and the very useful Zombie Disco Squad Remix and Dub... she deserves big success with this and then hopefully big coverage of her debut album 'Sex Dreams & Denim Jeans' in April 2010... v sexed up!
Here's what we said about the original track last week ... Uffie's just naughty isn't she? Very nice ... I loved 'Pop The Glock' and this new single bodes well for her debut album. Our favourite and outrageous Parisienne model Uffie is back with another titilating title 'MC's Can Kiss' (she does mention it's her 'bum cheek') ... the time is right for Uffie to consolidate international success in Britain to her fame at home and this is a good track ... so hitbound from this panel member.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 21 Feb 10
Ke$ha now 10 weeks at number one Stateside, while America's Haiti Charity record - the Michael Jackson / Lionel Richie penned 'We Are The World' - 25th Anniversary edition ... pulls in first week at number two ... sorry to say this ... but isn't it cringe-worthy ... worthy cause undoubtedly
but the vocals - select mute when it's played ... and it's six and a half minutes long ... and it's missed the UK Top 40 as Helping Haiti is for a second week the UK's number one holding the charity crown ... but down to 6 on Sundays iTunes ... another sign that any talk of the recession being over is a lie .... and great to see that at least £1 of the £3.99 cost of the Helping Haiti CD will go towards Helping Haiti .. but what about the other £2.99?

Interesting figures on Band Aid and Live Aid 1984 when we set about helping Ethiopia's starving 33 million population ... now just 26 years later in 2010 that starving population has swelled to 73 million ... will that mean 160 million in 2035 ...

As expected anyone favoured by a presence at The Brits has received a big sales boost ... with Florence & The Machine charting with two versions of 'You've Got The Love' .. her Brits appearance with Rascal 'You've Got The Dirtee Love' in at 2 - possibly the quickest recording ever to make the chart at just five days later - and her album version climbing to 11.

It's the second time prime time TV exposure has prevented the record from dropping from the chart - following the New Year Top Of The Pops when the track climbed 20 places eventually reaching the top five.

This feat replicates the double success for 'Don't Stop Believing' with Journey and Glee Cast both in the top ten with different versions of that song.

The Glee Cast take-over continues apace with two tunes in the top ten and 'Glee Cast The Music Season Volume 1' goes straight to the top of the UK Albums.

Oh dear dear ... Jedward & Vanilla Ice dropped ten to 12 .. now their younger fans have the track a quick descent is inevitable ... except woh ... it's climbed one place back up to 11.
