This week's post ...

Acrylics
Molly's Vertigo
new single
Fine single, a tidy slab of femme indie, radio friendly, nice song... deserves success.

Audio Bullys
Only Man
new single
Audio Bullys are back with a new tune and this qualifies as a song
"I wanna be your only man, don't wanna see you with no nother man, just me...". Tasty remixes Reset!, Dave Spoon and Jakwob aka James Jacob with his usual brokendown strangeness.

Foals
Spanish Sahara
new single 8 March 2010
Well this is quite a change from the 'Hummer' lads ... not sure it's a good move really. They seem to have mellowed their sound a little possible to gain more mainstream airplay and acceptance, but like many have found there's a problem ... mainstream often means veering towards X-Factor / Coldplay no rough edges and Foals sound appealed to their fans mainly because of the jarring often frenzied rough edges ... there's a danger they'll leave their fans behind without winning mainstream support. Brave move ... the jury's out ...

Liars
Overachievers
from the 'Sisterworld' album released 8 March 2010
Liars return with the usually oblique tune-age. 'The Overachievers' album taster is a three minute blast of crashing sound, shrieking vocals, and obtuse
reference. I'm sure they've a growing cult audience which will stay loyal however there has to be minimal chance of a giant leap forward. Interesting Liars as always... slim chart chance.

MGMT
Congratulations
new album 12 April 2010
The long awaited follow-up to 'Oracular Spectacular', the album home of 'Time To Pretend', 'Kid's and 'Electric Feel' ... here comes MGMT's equally off the wall 'Congratulations' ... here's the press release
"One of 2010's most eagerly anticipated new releases, Congratulations is the successor to MGMT's Oracular Spectacular, the 2008 debut album which established the band's potential as a visionary force in pop music. Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence: "It's Working," "Song for Dan Treacy," "Someone's Missing," "Flash Delirium," "I Found a Whistle," "Siberian Breaks," "Brian Eno," "Lady Dada's Nightmare," and "Congratulations."

1913
Atlantis
new single 26 April 2010
It's difficult to make a stand out intro using the standard guitar bass and drum sound but 1913 have managed with admirable effect. There must be a certain guitar sound which automatically sends the spine goose bumping and woh here it is again. 'Atlantis' is a well thought out medium paced rock stomper, tidy guitar work, Lou Reed type vocals and at 3'37" should pick up plenty of indie airplay .. with increasing audience interest. Good tune.

Stars & Sons
If It's Good For Me
new single
Yeh I like this
"Soon I'll adjust my routine, I'll eat organic baked beans, I'll drink your cola low caffeine If it's good for me... I'll get a business degree, I'll settle down on my knees, Yeh you'll smell the pot pourris yeh it's good for me.... When we expand into Mars, in floorless levitating cars, You'll see me stopping at stars and it's good for me..". Top lyrics with a splurge of sound and some top mixes from Mike Mago in a dancefloor style, Twin Knigs in a live sounding pub atmosphere and the strange Blueskies sampling bbang bang type mix. Chart chance

Stornoway
I Saw You Blink
new single
Pleasant country-side strum-a-long type tune from Stornoway, kinda jolly really, perhaps a little long at 3'40"
"Are you the one I've been waiting for for so so long...". The B-track 'Gondwanaland' is a "When you're lost and on your own.. " type song at 5 minutes 40 seconds, I'm not sure these chaps have made the most of their ideas. However their sound makes a refreshing change - less brash than many, pleasant light folkish vocals and arrangements... made for BBC local radio and with a little luck BBC6Music. A maybe

These New Puritans
Attack Music
new single 19 April
I have a feeling These New Puritons would be offended if they were evaluated on some commercial / sales basis .... that's obviously not where they're coming from. However 'Attack Music' is maybe more accessible in an Arcade Fire like way than their recent single. With this grandiose arrangement - huge Taiko drum... you'd expect something special on stage and These New Puritons don't disappoint ... an airy, spooky almost atmosphere created to highlight their self created new genre ... Artistic circles are loving it and stranger things have gone ballistic so if they're committed enough and possibly can create some more radio friendly pieces. maybe they can follow in Arcade Fire's footsteps. Interesting record.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 7 Mar 10
Look out Dizzee, Tinchy, Taio and Chippy - Tinie Tempah is the UK's new Number One. Tinie aka Patrick Okogwu, born 7 November 1988 is a rapper and MC from South London. He was born to Nigerian parents Frank & Rosemary Okogwu and has one brother; Kelvin Okogwu who currently attends the same St Paul's Academy as his brother. Tinie's first break came with his track 'Wifey' when a writer from the New York Times gave it a glowing review, noting Patrick’s shifting rhyme schemes, delivery and "nerve." Tinie Parlophone Records debut album is 'The Disc-Overy' is due in Summer 2010.
Tinie Temper aka Patrick Okogwu

Make way for the new wave... this is the teenies British craze equivalent of the 60's beat groups, 70's glam/punk, 80's new romantics/acid house, 90's Britpop/London soul and the 00's Arctic led indie fest and it shows no sign of abating...

Nine new tunes this week - and after just a week's absence The Black eyed Peas are back with 'Rock That Body'in at 24 - their fourth UK hit pulled from 'The End' - Stateside they've gone with a different track for fourth single with 'Imme Be' top for a second week.

Surprising in the week Lady GaGa's Monster Ball tour came to Cardiff and the UK that 'Telephone' is struggling for a fifth week in the 30s reaching a high today of 31. Support act Alphabeat's top pop tune 'Hole In My Heart' drops ten to 39.

Lady GaGa proves that all the political correctness laws in the world can't stop offensive behaviour, and in fronty of our eyes too. Stephanie as her Mum knows her gave a scintilating live performance on Red Dragon Wadio last year only to this year have Kam Kelly calling her Lady BoiBoi everytime he mentions her. I bet you would Kam, you know, if you were ... you knwo. Then on Friday Jonathan Woss is taking aim with Lady GeeGee. I know she excells with her drama, she's superb on stage and her debut album, full of top songs has launched a new genre selling ten million copies for Diamond status in just a year - but she looks kinda fragile on interview duty. Still as Bernard Manning said 'Never take a joke seriously'... I suppose...

With a sell ot tour and a top four single Ellie Goulding can add Number One Album to her CV as 'Lights' goes straight top the top. .

Posted Wednesday 10th March 2010
Last night BBC1 Wales showed an interesting documentary on one of India's newest rock stars... Bridgend boy and former Losing Son drummer Jayce Lewis... still widely unknown here it's well worth a view, his 'Icon' tune has been massive in Asia and it's on it's way back to the UK.
