This week's post ...

The Candle Thieves
We're All Gonna Die (Have Fun)
new single 5 April
The Candle Thieves have come up with a light quirky pop tune here
"Get outta your bed and get your music on, get out on the street and get some living done, I'll think you'll probably live beyond the end of the week, you got enough time left so come and spend it with me..." Light and catchy could do the trick, nice song.

Catfish & The Bottlemen
The Beautiful Decay EP
new EP 15 March 2010
North Wales BBC 6Music favourites Catfish & The Bottlemen release a second EP of three new songs - the energetic two and a half minute 'Collide', the chanty three minute 'Harlot' and the mellow to medium paced five minute anthemic 'Tyrants' -
"I spend my nights trying to get a grip of you and get my hands up your jumper ...". You may have seen Catfish supporting Reverend & The Makers or heard them on Steve Lamacq's show ... probably not any hits here but hey ... deserving of good tune-age recognition.

Cosmo Jarvis
Crazy Screwed Up Lady
new single
Cosmo Jarvis has a bit of a leftfield tune here
"OK You Crazy Screwed Up Lady .." that's quite a chorus and well there must be plenty who can readily identify with it! At 3'30" it's a decent radio length, Cosmo paints a picture of a fairly lost soul in a bright uptempo track, it's quite adventurous - there's even a key change 3 mins in... I'm not sure it works but it does stand out and it does make you wonder who may have written it, and that's a bit of trick in itself. Intriguing.

Eugene & The Lizards
Bugjuice
new single 1 March 2010
An upbeat, jiggling kind of indie tune, melancholia in the vocal style from Mr McGuinness, attractive name ... yeah not bad. Should pick up some tasty airplay and with a little luck ... bingo!

Goldfrapp
Rocket - Remixes
new single 8 March 2010
Alison Goldfrapp is back with another enormous sounding tune here "...oh oh oh I've gotta rocket, you're going on it, you're never coming back ...". Top twenty maybe top ten ... with the useful inclusion of remixes - the six minute Grum, the six and half minute Penguin Prison remix, Richard X One Zero plus Dub and Eight Four and then the pounding seven minute Tiesto Remix. Top electro hit bound.

Jayce Lewis
Icon
new single 13 December 2009
This nearly slipped through our net ... Jayce Lewis from Bridgend not even well known on our wonderful local radio stations here ... Red Dragon FM and Nation Radio should be playing this track on heavy rotation because it's great. Jayce is from Bridgend and was the drummer with Losing Son - our Jonny Wing booked them for many a show at the Barfly when the venue first opened. Now fronting his music with his own name he's been signed by Manager David Prowse. Who? ... Darth Vader in the first Star Wars movie 1977 ... The Green Cross Code Man 1979 ... Oh him ... yes and check Jayce's progress .. check his video here ... this vid is o massive success on MTV Asia 13 plays a day ... the lad deserves big recognition here but to date his myspace is a little spartan on the message front ... This is a top track, a little uptempo, grungy, vocals back in the mix ... a hit ... eventually we hope.

New Young Pony Club
Chaos
new single
Well it's been three years since they were labelled the next big thing ... NYPC are a good band, an interesting combination three gals one guy and this is a spunky track ... a rattling guitar, bass laden rhthm track with a strong indie style femme vocal and a top pop melody ... maybe they'll hit really big this year ... hope so ... and check the Manic Street Preachers style remix of this .. v.cool

The Plastiscines
Another Kiss
new single
More Parisienne wonderment and some more femme fatale to delight in ... 'Another Kiss' comes in a couple of falavas .. the original mix enchanting enough but the Louis La Roche Remix adds a little beef and length to the track which should pick up top airplay .. Radio 2xs has been playing the song for some time now ... and with some relevent exposure this bunch should easily step into UK chart land. Good tune

Shy Child
Disconnected
new single
'Disconnected' is a pleasant uplifting track, bright vocals tight rhythm track, five useful mixes .. maybe not the obvious smash but radio friendly and could well pick up important airplay leading to a breakthrough. Good tune.

Uffie
MC's Can Kiss
new single
Superb ... Uffie's just naughty isn't she? Very nice ... I loved 'Pop The Glock' and this new single bodes well for her debut album. Our favourite and outrageous Parisienne model Uffie is back with another titilating title 'MC's Can Kiss' (she does mention it's her 'bum cheek') ... the time is right for Uffie to consolidate international success in Britain to her fame at home and this is a good track ... so hitbound from this panel member.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 14 Feb 10
So no surprises Helping Haiti is number one ... well maybe one surprise ... in the sales figures ... 200,000 copies were sold on Sunday and Monday while the record suffered a comparatively sharp fall off with 250,000 sold in the next five days. With downloading it's become far easier to buy an often below average record for a good cause but people didn't rush to buy this one in the same numbers as Band Aid, Ferryaid, Dunblane or even Band Aid 20 ... or even Peter Kays Children In Need thing .... or even the X-Factor Finalists ..
gosh there's a lot of charity chunes at the top in't there ... but not in America ... and it's just what our embattled PM Gordon needs right now - a number one single.

It was Mr Brown who called Mr Cowell to get the musical fundraising ball rolling and some cynicals may think Helping Haiti has something to do with your vote ... but the money raised by the best paid man on American TV Simon Cowell will go to a worthy cause ... and unlike Mrs Thatcher with Band Aid in 1984 Mr Brown volunteered to drop any VAT due on the record...

... now for Mr B's next job - a tv show where the guests cry and some onions ... and try to remember to get an audience waving union jacks. Sad without doubt, but tears don't erase the pre-meditated lies/deceipts on weapons of mass destruction, immigration, tax, equality and so on and so on ad nauseum..... oh and Piers Morgan? What did Fern Britton do wrong... oh yeah asked a good question that nailed a big lie... doh.

The Glee Cast take-over continues with a second track 'Halo/Walking On Sunshine' joining their cover of 'Don't Stop Believing' in the top ten - 'It's My Life / Confessions' enters at 14 and their recordings of 'Somebody Too Love' drops to 33 with 'Take A Bow' still hanging around just outside the top forty.

Oh dear ... Jedward & Vanilla Ice drop ten to 12 .. now their younger fans have the track a quick descent is inevitable.

Alicia Keys 'Element Of Freedom' stays top of the UK Albums while Ke$ha tops America's Singles for a ninth week.

5 new entries - 8 up, 25 down, 2 non-movers

Tony Wright...
Posted Sunday 21st February 2010
This is a rumour so be warned .. it may not be the truth ... Chris Needs to leave BBC Radio Wales ... Tony Wright to replace him ... it does sound like a plan.

Tony Wright who?
Posted Tuesday 16th February 2010
Young Jason Harrold, DJ Competition Winner 1988 seems to be 'torn between two lovers' ... Our radio spy has spotted the Red Dragon Breakfast legend is now to be a future Real Radio Wales Breakfast legend having apparently taken over their Breakfast Show ... the only thing is he's still on BBC Radio Bristol's Afternoon Show with 'The biggest laughs' - listen here.
A bit of moonlighting as he appears to have inherited the mysteriously disappeared Tony Wright's job in a double shifting at Real Radio see here.
He certainly sounds happier than his last months on Red Dragon when I could hear the familiarly agonising dying vocal throes of a dj headed for the exit.
Good luck Jason, where's that drink you owe me?

Ole Tel's back on Radio 2 with 'Weekend Wogan', with a format resembling more his TV show than his Radio Show.
71 year old Wogan will have 16 weeks holiday a year with his shows recorded in three blocks of twelve ie 36 per year. The new name for Terry's Old Geezers is to be Wogan's Ageing Sunday Participants' ... err yes.

Billy Dreamer...

Posted Sunday 14th February 2010
Musician Billy Bragg has taken his protest against excessive bonuses for RBS bosses to Edinburgh, the home of the bank.
He is calling on Chancellor Alistair Darling to cap bonuses for chiefs at the bailed-out bank to £25,000.
The campaign currently has 30,000 online supporters.
Bragg is refusing to pay tax on his earnings until the limit is imposed. He delivered a speech at RBS' former headquarters in St Andrew's Square.
After the event, the singer-songwriter said: "I'm doing it to draw attention to the fact the bankers seem to think it's business as usual now.
Either we own 84% of the company or the entire thing is a sham
"They're starting already to talk about paying the kind of excessive bonuses that got us into all this trouble in the first place, whilst the rest of us are being softened up for public service cuts. Considering that this hole in the public purse has been caused by the bailout for the banks, the bankers should be leading the way in making economies."
RBS, which is 84% owned by the taxpayer following a string of bail-outs, is expected to pay millions of pounds in bonuses to its investment bankers this year.
Bragg, who released the hit album Talking With The Taxman About Poetry in 1986, is urging people to send letters or e-mails to the chancellor as part of his online campaign. Asked previously about the prospect of going to jail for refusing to pay his taxes, Bragg said: "I'm hoping it won't come to that. This is to draw attention to the issue. Either we own 84% of the company or the entire thing is a sham. I'm fed up with no-one doing anything about it."

Billy from Barking, I've got your 'Progressive Patriot' autobiogarphy we were both wrong - we've been had ... Sir Fred could and surely should have been sacked without a penny compensation - instead he's the bank robber with the biggest haul in history and thank's to our Labour chums entirely legal - for now ... the Government had the power to stop the financial disaster but why not the will - that's how Australia did better ... Billy, of course Labour has become and is a sham ... the sweets from strangers party ... by the way, good luck in jail writing to Darling Alistair, find a new party to support.
