This week's post ...

Bombay Bicycle Club
Evening / Morning
new single 22 February 2010
Greg James Record Of The week on Radio One so plenty of promotion should see this excellent new track from BBC .. Bombay Bicycle Club do well ... hopefully a Top 40 breakthrough.

Detroit Social Club
Kiss The Sun
new single
What's with all the clubs eh? A thundering drum track announces Detroit Social Club's arrival with another excellent new single. The haunting 'Kiss the Sun' with it's useful extended mix and instrumental version with all important radio play could well make the top forty. Detroit Social Club demonstrating strong progress, good tune.

Mumford & Sons
Roll Away The Stone / The Cave
new single
'Roll Away The Stone' a 1973 Mott The Hoople top tenner and with excitement I expected a Mumford & Sons accoustic cover of the old rocker .. but but no that was all a long long time agao and Mumford & Sons have their own endearing mellowness aplenty .. 'Winter Winds', 'Little Lion Man' and now 'The Cave' and 'Roll Away The Stone'. These guys are very different with a near unique veering towards traditional folk style and their trademark sound works superbly well. I'm
surprised by the large number of requests for 'Winter Winds' (still on the Radio One playlist) so I fully expect further success for them .. top tunes

OK Go
This Too Shall Pass
new single 12 January 2010
OK Go's new single 'This Too Shall Pass' is ... well, sweet. Plenty of sweetness in the lush mix especially the Passion Pit Remix. I'm not sure this isn't too nice ... New album 'Of The Blue Colour Hair' includes the original mix and the 'buzz' is the album is full of Prince licks, funky guitar and riffs... it's a surprisingly tastily different bent from the band who hit big with 'Get Over It'. Well groovy.

Steve Aoki & Zuper Blahq
I'm In The House
new single 1 March 2010
Here's a footstomping track that deserves a shot at the big time .. can't help thinking it would be a good song for Basshunter to cover when he comes down from Katland. A whole load of fine remixes provide a variety of play-out potential and come March 'I'm In The House' could be. Good tune. Here's more from the PR
"America’s biggest superstar DJ, producer, and fashion mogul, Steve Aoki, teams up with Zuper Blahq, the new electro project of Will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas. ‘I’m In The House’ has been a club anthem for the past few months and is already receiving daytime spins on Radio 1 and Kiss, with everyone from Pete Tong to Fearne Cotton leading the charge.
A party-starting, floor shaking riot of electro riffs and thumping bass, crowned with Zuper Blahq’s call-to-arms vocal, ‘I’m In The House’ is helping kick start the USA’s dance revolution, with the likes of Steve’s DJ sets and Zuper Blahq’s music getting America’s rave on like never before. What was once a barely coastal club/circuit scene, with few national beacons in between, is fast turning into a nation under a very different groove, as both hip hop and rock stars alike turn to dance music for inspiration.
Steve is the biggest DJ in America, and the man behind Dim Mak Records who released artists like Bloc Party, The Kills, Klaxons, MSTRKRFT, The Bloody Beetroots, Mystery Jets, and The Gossip. As Weird Science he’s remixed Peaches, Snoop Dogg and Bloc Party, and under his own name, Aoki has remixed The Killers, Robin Thicke, Lenny Kravitz, Duran Duran, Timbaland, and many more. In the past he has collaborated with artists including Boys Noize, The Bloody Beetroots, and Junkie Xl. Also involved in fashion, Aoki has developed lines for KR3W Apparel, Supra Footwear, headphones for WESC, sunglasses with KSUBI, and a brand new men’s/women’s range with his supermodel sister, Devon. He also co-owns a restaurant with Mark Ronson.
Zuper Blahq is a new electro house project from a certain well-known US musician and pop star. Details are thin on the ground and, as yet, nobody has come forward to claim the persona as their own. That said, a good internet search will reveal some intriguing possibilities…
The remix package is killer too with a dirty dubstep meets electro soundclash from The Count aka Hervé , Redlight's workout does some serious damage for the crack-house circuit, Qemist rework 'I'm In The House' into a DnB stormer, while Gigi Barocco delivers big time on the electro-house front.

This week's Top 40 ...

Lady Sov sods off
Posted Friday 22 January 2010
Exiled from Celebrity Big Brothel Lady Sovereign was all set to appear on Andrew Neils BBC1 politics show 'This Week' when mysteriously she 'did a runner' leaving Mr Neil fluffing his lines. Nice one Sov! ... ish, that's er nice-ish.
Sov's got a new fan in Russia on DailyMail.co.uk
If she is Britain's female version of Eminem no wonder your country is a laughing stock!
- Olga Kalashnikova, Moscow, 19/1/2010 23:53
Wiki got this explanation up quick...
On 22 January 2010, Lady Sovereign was due to appear on This Week, a BBC political review show, to discuss the laws regarding self-defence for householders. Early in the programme, she was shown backstage waving to camera in anticipation of her appearance. However, when the segment began, presenter Andrew Neil apologised to viewers and explained the rapper had "done a runner." Neil instead discussed the topic with regular contributors Michael Portillo and Diane Abbott and concluded by joking "Who needs Lady Sovereign? Who IS Lady Sovereign?" Abbott laughed and responded "I don't know."

U2 & Jay-Z for Haiti
Posted Thursday 21 January 2010 BBC.co.uk
U2, Jay-Z and producer Swizz Beatz have recorded a song together to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake.
U2's guitarist The Edge told Irish radio station 2FM the band "wrote a song, finished and recorded" last week after being contacted about the idea.
The Edge, Bono and Jay-Z, along with Rihanna, are due to appear in London for "a group performance" as part of Friday's Hope For Haiti telethon.
George Clooney's two-hour benefit show will be aired on MTV in the UK.
More encouraging developments came on Thursday with the news that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has asked the Independent Republic of Cowell to produce a charity record for Haiti. The PM's office wouldn't confirm whether Mr Brown had also asked Mr Cowell to help him with his credit crunch debt of between £200-800 billion.

Save The Globe
Posted Wednesday 20 January 2010
The Globe maybe threatened with closure but look at the line-up over the coming weeks ... Judy Collins, Courtney Pine, Bad Manners, Peter Green, Wishbone Ash, Colin Blunstone, Sassafras ... oh yeah and Andy Fairweather-Low ... oh yeh yeh and a superb birthday tribute weekend to celebrate Bob Marley's birthday with Bob Bailey & The Jailers, BBC Radio 1Extra's Young Lion and Cardiff's extremely talented Leighton Jones among the line-up ... Leighton's a dead ringer for Michael McDonald's classy sounds and has wowed 100,000 at Hyde Park ... click here for January's gig list at The Globe's website
Surf onto The Globe website here
Having lived in Cardiff under Conservative and Labour governance, my verdict is that by far the worse has been the current Lib Dem / Plaid Cymru Party Of Wales Alliance ... they've been responsible through their crazy antagonistic decision-making for impoverishing many city centre traders, the closure of Cardiff's brilliant live music venue The Point, the many jobs lost from Cardiff's heritage bakers Memory Lane Cakes in Llanishen ... the list goes on ... the plan to charge CF1 residents for parking outside their homes, ending free Sunday parking in the city centre, building a road through Bute Park, the illogical impractical ending of terminus status on many bus routes of the you guessed it.. central bus terminus ... there's more .... I have never seen so many mothers and children crying on television at a Council anouncement ... an evil announcement calculated to upset ... I say evil because their long overdue school closures announcement was made at the beginning of the Easter holiday when.. hey the opposition was on holiday. I know that's how shifty it was because I bumped into Wales former First Minister Rhodri Morgan the following day - as you do completely by chance - and he explained it to me.
Then there's the planning permission for a hostel to be built next to Clwb Ifor Bach - presumably with all the sound adjustments that will require.
In the meantime the latest live music venue threatened with closure is The Globe, which needs to raise an extra £25,000 to comply with sound proofing demands ... this is an extra £25,000 ... it is dwarfed by the money that's been wasted by this council on unnecessary road narrowing - these unhealthy chumps have really only been elected as a result of the UK Labour leadership - Blair & Brown's deliberate abandoning it's traditional support, they've stepped into a vacuum, rather like another party they don't like to speak to ... it's a bullying behaviour perhaps reminiscent of another country not so far away in the 1930's not so far where the idea for 'no smoking' zones originated.
It feels like we're living here under a seige of stupidity, but it's not stupidity it's more resembles some weird anal retentive social engineering.
Did you know the average cost of a road hump is budgetted at £1,000 .. now you do!

Attention Detention
Posted Wednesday 20 January 2010
Detentions where pupils are forced to listen to classical music are an effective deterrent against unruly behaviour, a head teacher has found.
Brian Walker, head at West Park School in Derby, runs the two-hour detentions, featuring Elgar, Mozart, Verdi and Bach, on a Friday after school. BBC.co.uk
The Musicians Union & legal rights charity Reprieve will be interested in this as they are currently running a campaign against the use of music like Eminem's 'Slim Shady' and Dr Dre for purposes of torture in Guantanamo. TimesOnLine
You can picture the decision making at West Park School, it was a hard choice - Elgar, Eminem or Barney The Dinosaur?

Cadbury's Bosched
Posted Tuesday 19 January 2010
Bosch pull out .. another 900 join the Dole.. jobs transferred to Hungary where workers cost 65% of a UK worker. 'Cadbury's Keynsham factory is saved by the American firm Kraft in their £11.5 billion takeover ....' that's the dodgy reasoning broadcast by BBC West tonight. However, there can't have been many takeovers where the workforce taken over have gained, ask anyone from Capital Radio Group. And if Gordon's on your side watch out....
I've just taken phone calls ... three previously routine calls from around the corner that are now coming from India, The Phillipines and South Africa.
Globalisation is marching on and gathering pace and it is easy to understand why when you learn a little about the differential.
Why do firms pull out of Britain? Sometimes the government aid that lured them has dried up.
One colleague of mine in a large organisation dealing with finance made it quite easy to understand.
He mentioned that some contractors sub-contract out to India despite predictable communications problems prompting the obvious question - why would a company decide to transfer work from the UK to somewhere like India or The Phillipines.
His answer should shake anyone who imagines British recovery to be imminent ... it's as simple as this he said
"in India 10 graduates can easily be recruited and cost around the same as one graduate here where there is a more difficult recruitment process."
Let's run that back .... ten times the labour force for the same dosh ...
This is where a Government would normally step in to help their own population ie the electorate that voted for them. For thirteen years it seems Labour have been doing the opposite.
It's difficult to see how this scenario will benefit many in the UK .. so we can eliminate that idea from their thinking.

Dappy drops one
Posted Friday 15 January 2010 Source BBC.co.uk
Government policies that tackle social exclusion are not without their problems. It seems elevation to star status isn't likely to help ... get this story from le Beeb
N-Dubz Dappy - real name Dino Contostavlos - was last night a guest on BBC 1's politics show 'This Week' with Andrew Neil and made some reference to how the band boyz were having to learn to be 'gentlemen'.
Today he's been apologising to a woman for sending her threatening text messages, after she contacted BBC Radio 1 expressing her dislike for the band.
Chloe Moody texted The Chris Moyles Show while the band were being interviewed, calling them
"losers" and labelling Dappy "repulsive".
But she was shocked to receive a message the following day from rapper Dappy saying:
"Your [sic] gonna die".
The BBC said Dappy took down Ms Moody's number without producers' knowledge.
As a result of the incident, N-Dubz have been dropped as ambassadors of anti-bullying charity Beatbullying.
