Cut Copy
In Ghost Colours Sampler new album 12 May
Cut Copy ooze quality, there's a depthy bassiness and a strong cold emotive vocal ... made for the dancefloor it's only a matter of time before a big UK hit arrives. The anthemic with 'Heart On Fire' I reach out for you tonight - great. 'Lights & Music' is a superb track/single, 'So Haunted' veers towards The Doves 'Pounding', the 120bpm 'Feel The Love' has a more mellow feel and 'Nobody Lost Nobody Found' demonstrates another catchy pop sensibility 'in the fires of love'. A fine album from another top Aussie outfit
Guillemots
Red new album 24 March
Guillemots, one of the most inventive and musical outfits in 08. An excellent set on the eleven song Red. Top Twenty hit 'Get Over It' is surrounded by gems.. faves include the haunting intimate 'Don't Look Down', joyous 'Cockateels', the edgy 'Last Kiss', the catchy (Beatles melody ish) 'Standing On the Last Star', the pleading 'Big Dog'. Very tasty
Sergeant
K-OK new single 21 April
Alan Mcgee hails Sergeant as 'saviours of Scottish music', Emily Eavis asked them to play Glastonbury 07 and they're currently banged up with John Leckie the producer behind Radiohead's 'The Bends'. The 2mins 45secs 190bpm 'K-OK' is a fine debut single which is already attracting favourable tabloid press and could break through
Noah & The Whale
Shape Of My Heart new single 5 May
An uptempo accoustic based song best describes this single from Noah who you may have seen supporting Feist, Kate Nash, laura Marling or Broken Social Scene with new dates just announced at the Camden crawl and with ex-Moldy Peach Adam Green. it's an entertaining song which should pick up valuable airplay
DORP
Rollercoaster new single 21 April
One of the most innovative electro bands around but I'm not sure this single is strong enough to break through
Madonna
4 Minutes new single 24 March
Madge remains an enigma, and a thoroughly charged new single with Timberlake and Timbaland demonstrates her awesome power - the result three weeks in the top ten and appetites whet for the next Madonna chapter. And Madonna continues to make illuminating observations on London's roads and trains
Elliot Minor
Parallel Worlds new single 7 April
Elliot Minor were tour support for Fall Out Boy and now with 2 million myspace hits and a major deal with Warner Brothers here comes another 189bpm whirlwind single should see these five guys from York gracing the Top Twenty a fourth time
Ladyhawke
Back Of The Van new single 14 April
New Zealander Pip Brown aka Ladyhawke eh? Well it's a sexy little 132bpm pop tune which meanders in ... and out counjouring up a rather appealing picture!
The Whitest Boy Alive
Dreams new album
Named with historical irony and based in Berlin, The Whitest Boy Alive led by half King Of Convenience Erland Oye have here created the nemesis of the music industry. This is so minimal it's a giant. Bearing in mind this act started out as an electro minded combo in 03, this new album of ten plaintive sensitively mellow laid back couldn't be further from an electron or the land of bling. It's all rather unique, fave tracks ... Burning, Inflation, All Ears
One Night Only
It's About Time new single 28 April
hmmm another chunky track lifted from their debut album and accompanied by it's useful instrumental brother. Another Top Forty hit for sure, Top Ten well there was a notable absence when The Hoosiers followed 'Goodbye Mr A' last track so not sure about that
Robyn
Who's That Girl new single 14 April
Top Ten without doubt, a great album and another great single
