this week's post ...
Elbow
Grounds For Divorce
new single 10 March
Elbow are back with a thundering riff, dynamic pounding medium paced hand clap sound drum track and trademark vocals 'There's a hole in my neighbourhood...' a great line from a fine single, Top Ten I reckon.
Elbow are maturing nicely.. there's a more accessible sound appearing as they build a lengthy career. Perhaps they're working more on the traditional three to four minute tracks, Forget Myself and new single Grounds For Divorce are strong evidence of this. Sometimes the meandering loses me, it's not that they're bad tunes. All the Elbow hallmarks are there, determinedly unique approach, distinctive vocals, it's just that many at 6+ minutes go on too long. Five top tracks though 'Forget Myself', 'Leaders Of The Free World', 'Fallen Angel', 'Any Day Now' and 'The Good Day' - Chartbound
Flyleaf
Flyleaf new album 14 January
Why wasn't I surprised Flyleaf are on A&M Records, it's been a quality label since it's inception and this record is packed with quality. The production is superb, Lacey Mosleys vocals are full of dramatic presence, somewhat akin to Hayley Paramore. Top single 'I'm So Sick', the haunting 'Cassie' and the lullaby 'There For You'. Top notch ie big
Flyleaf I'm So Sick - Extinction Remix
Well it's a great song with a quality remix, and 'Tina' featured on the Guitar Hero games is a thumping spooky tune too
MGMT
Time To Pretend new single 10 March
Brooklyn based space rock ... future seventies ... great concept... 'now let's have some fun' Yeah these guys stand out and this catchy debut (alreday Edith Bowman's Record Of The Week) could go big
InnerPartySystem
The Download EP
Yeh I like this band, favourite track is 'TheLoversDancing' Remix, followed by 'TheLoversDancing'. Quite an atmospheric listen pop minded and five catchy tunes. very good
One Night Only
Started A Fire new album 11 February
One Night Only have cracked it, a sell out tour... top ten single... top twenty album and an impressive debut it is. Each song is a quality track, not quite as raw as their Yorkshire rivals the Arctic's but nevertheless a gritty down to earth approach. Tracks 1 & 2, 'Just For Tonight' and first single 'It's About Time' open the set and there's plenty more single sounding trax that follow
Look See Proof
Do You Think It's Right album due in June
Catchy and choppy, Hertfordshire's Look See Proof could follow in the Arctic's and One Night Only's footsteps. Then again I hope for them that it's not getting a little predictable, but it's catchy enough and with a bit of Radio One support Top Forty shouldn't be a problem
The Shoes
Knock Out
promo
From money capital Monaco via Reims near paris comes The Shoes and 'Knock Out' ... is this a review of one of their most memorable nights out? If it is don't mess with them 'run gloves run training spit sweat beer speaker fight fist broken nose count heavyweight world champion Holyfield showtime' ... with a Survivor like guitar line, this does stand out from the crowd and could win a title
