this week's post ...
Pendulum
Propane Nightmares new single 28 April
Without doubt the most awesome of the week. Pendulum are like the juggernaught of sound - a blistering attack on the ears is guaranteed, the heart pumps faster with their throbbing rocked up drum & bass. This is another top notch single with excellent mixes accompanying. If you can get a ticket see them at Cardiff University on 1st May.
Sam Sparro
Black & Gold new single 31 March
An Australian now based in LA, 24 year old Sam has come up with an awesome track here, absolutely irresistable and number 23 on Radio One's chart show today on downloads alone. A massive hit.
Leon Jean Marie
Bed Of Nails / Stay Right Here new single 7 April
St Lucien born Hackney 24 year old Leon opened for Unkle Jam here last May and released one of our fave singles of last year in Scratch / Make It Right. His debut album is due in June in the meantime here's more evidence of an unusually creative and mature talent. Bed Of Nails is unusual in that it seems more rock than soul and yet it seems to sit easily in both camps as does it's creator. Could Leon be as versatile as Prince .. time will tell.
Blah Blah Blah
Death To The Indie Disco new single 7 April
Blah Blah Blah's live policy - never turn a gig down. With a limited edition 500 copy 7" pressing, The Blah's do indie with a 70's disco bass riff, all very tongue in the cheek and amusing, a catchy little tune which veers to novelty land, catch 'em at Cardiff Barfly on the 10th April. Hit potential
Eastern Conference Champions
The Box new single 21 April
From their debut album 'Ameritown' - yep this is an excellent track ... plaintive vocals and a solid listen .. great name for the band and maybe 'The Box' could register chart success for Pennsylvania's Eastern Conference Champions. Two appearances at the Camden Crawl coming up at the Xfm stage at The Barfly on Fri 18 Apr and on 19th April at The Good Mixer
MGMT
Oracular Spectacular new album 10 March
With influences like Hall & Oates, Roxy, Kinks and Bowie - Future 70's Brooklyn duo MGMT's 'Time To Pretend' has already achieved record of the week status at Radio One, hot on it's heels comes their debut album packed with potential follow-up singles it's a strong listen. Faves are 'Electric Feel', 'Kids' and 'Weekend Wars'.
Rogue Wave
Like I Needed new single 24 March
Oooh-oooh there's a little 'feeling groovy' vocal and melody line here ... bay area inspirational .. nice harmonies, perhaps a little disjointed, a little slung together, an interesting arrangement though, recorded in California and mixed in Nashville - hmm not sure
