Black Kids
I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You
new single 7 April
Go team Black Kids go ... there's a distinct similarity between these Jacksonville Florida hot shots and 2005's hotly tipped Go Team! A rather brilliant swashbuckling sonic splurge, gospel influence, pop, a Phil Spector wall of sound approach and off the wall lyrics combine to make Black Kids sound and this single irresistable.
Against Me
Stop
new single 14 April
With a message in the music and a video not yet available on YouTube UK, this is the most commercial track yet from another troop of rockers from Florida. Produced by Butch Vig 'Stop' is a solid 3 minute listen if you don't mind a lecture
The King Blues
Under The Fog new album 3 March
King Blues - awesome! The stark intro featuring words of war from Bush and assorted atmospheric new bulletin's leads into (I Won't Have) Blood On My Hands ... and sets the tone for a musical lesson in la left politic ... great titles 'Chump In A 3 Piece Suit', 'If I Had A Coin' and the single 'Come Fi Di Youth' - an excellent debut. LKook out for them supporting the devastating Anti-Flag
Big Linda
Golden Girl new single 24 march
Big Linda played at our mad4it night a couple of months back - nice guys, great workers, fab show - tight as Fu*k! Golden Girl is another blistering track, 164bpm - short and sweet. I love it
Aynsli Jones
Had Enuff new single 31 March
Some sharp rap and a great production for Aynsli's debut single worthy of someone who raters Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Wu-Tang and massive Attack with a new album due in Spring
The Secret Handshake
Gamegirl new single 10 March
An unusual approach in that all vocal is through some vocoder sounding elctronic gadget. It makes for a Gary Numan-esque distant delivery. A healthy 126+ bpm, made for the dancefloor however, I'm not sure the song is strong enough to cut through
One Full Year new album 14 April
An unusual approach in that each vocal is through some vocoder sounding elctronic gadget. It makes for a Gary Numan-esque distant delivery.
I find it a little difficult to be intimate with, it's a little too elctro for my taste. Each song is aimed at the dancefloor between 100 and 140bpm.. Summer Of 98, Everone Knows Everone (clever lyric), Midnight Movie, Capital Cities and Lately ... I think the songs are just lacking something...
Gloria Cycles
Vegas new single 17 March
Hmm it's not a bad debut, just not strong enough to break through.. Brighton Uni students Kenny, Julian, Jen and Jack - an intriguing four piece line-up though
Parka
Better Anyway
new single 21 April
Here's another fine single from Parka, a thrid song lifted from their soon to be released debut 'Attack Of the Hundred Yard Hardman'... they could well be catching the One Night Only train to chartland with this
NME Awards CD 2008
new album for Shelter
Well this is packed with all covers gems... Wombats do leona Lewis, Bloc party are Nelly Furtado, My Chemical Romance are Blur and The manic street Preachers have miraculously transformed into Rihanna - it's a novelty and smile potential is high, all for a good cause
