The new year arrives with yet more compelling evidence that the BBC decision in 2006 to axe Top Of The Pops was not based on commercial or public service interests but some other crazy motive ....

Each of the artists featured on the New Years Day edition of TOTP have received a major sales boost and a higher position on the new chart.

Biggest gainer is Florence & The Machine's 'You've Got The Love' which although it's been in for ten weeks climbs from 31 to 13 following their spot on the show.

Nearly four years after TOTP's disappearance from the weekly schedule it's spiked Alexandras 'Bad Boys' to climb 13 to 12, Black Eyed Peas 'I Gotta Feeling' climbs 10 to 14 while there are vstrangely coincidental re-entries from JLS 'Beat Again', Taio Cruz 'Break Your Heart' and GaGa's 'Poker Face' - her Glastonbury performance of this song was featured on the show.

Bearing in mind the number of flop TV shows we're paying for, why axe a prime time show with a guaranteed enormous audience like TOTP.

So often decisions are made on arty farty political reasoning rather than common sense or demand, we should be able to know which useful idiots and of which persuasions are making the crazy decisions and give them a wide berth.

Saturday night, 2nd January 2010... It's minus three degrees Celsius - that's twenty six Fahrenheit... "Can you play something from Germany, we're German?" Errrm... how about Polarkreiss 18? "Oh yes please" ... It was a perfect request and Rebecca Neef, Janine Reitel, Grit Dressler and Sabine Ruehl (pictured above) from Munich and Leipzig took the dancefloor by storm! Leipzig band Polarkreiss 18 scored massive success in Deutschland with 'Allein, Allein' but sadly missed out in the UK - at last it was a real thrill to see the song with it's superb chorus in full effect with a home crowd!!

"What goes around comes around" ... and with Leeds superb FA Cup 3rd Round giant-killing of Man Utd in front of a full house of 76,000 fans at Old Trafford the 9,000 Elland Road faithful were ecstatic.
Eight years to the day since top flight success began unravelling for Leeds at Ninian Park, Cardiff. It was the FA Cup 3rd Round tie in 2002 when the then Premier League leaders Leeds themselves suffered a famous 2-1 humbling defeat by the then League One Bluebirds.
Today's determined League One leaders Leeds were rewarded for taking their attacking game to the Champions and were unlucky not to have scored three while their defence held firm to keep Man Utd out.
Leeds have the second strongest defence in the top seven divisions, only one team has conceded less goals in their league fixtures .... Newport County.

And what about County ... again they kept a clean sheet to beat Worcester 1-0 in front of another record crowd of 2,525. The Exiles are now 14 points clear at the top of the Blue Square South and a reinstated Newport Wrexham League derby looks positively on for next season. Some doubted Dean Holdsworth's appointment as County manager two years back but what an achievement ... the best defence in the top seven flights - a goal difference of +35 with 44 goals scored and just nine goals conceded in 23 games.
