Chairlift
Bruises
new single
What a superbly sweetly sung single
"I tried to do hand stands for you, every time I fell on you, boy every time I fell for you, I'm permanently black and blue, permanently blue for you..." and 2'35" in but well worth waiting for "I've got bruises on my knees for you, and grass stains on my knees for you, got holes in my new jeans for you, got pink and black and blue...." the lines conjours up quite a picture... this gal seems to love some dirty inuendo, and with a quirky bassy, electro dance upbeat too, very nice. A Passion Pit remix is available too. The eccentrically named Chairlifts are a quirky new US outfit from the East Coast, this time a three piece. Deserves airplay and plenty of interest

Inme
Single Of The Weak
new single 17 August
A superb comeback from Cardiff metal heads Inme "skaking off the emo trappings of their 2003 debut ...". Solid, rocker, the 124bpm 'Single Of The Weak' with it's radio references
deserves a shot at the top, with a little luck they should crack the Top 40 again.

Passion Pit
To Kingdom Come
new single
'To Kingdom Come' intros with a charming fiddly guitar line, and is that flute? Solid Phil Collins style drums take you into another dreamy vocal
"I believe in you so you believe in me ...". Passion Pit are yet another band who could well crack the big time, this is good well thought out material and deserves a chance. Good

Team Waterpolo
Letting Go Remixes
new single
This is a fine record from a talented bunch of pop officienados... 'Letting Go' is a catchy song and together with the 'Letting Mama Go remix' and this set of mixes they could bang on in the Top 40. Included here are the 'Starsmith Remix', 'Return To sender', 'Sexual Ice Age' and 'Canada Here I Come'. Well worthy

Cotton takes Whiley
Great news for nepotism everywhere - it's alive, well and happy right at the top.

Radio One have axed 44 year old Jo Whiley's morning show and replaced her with 28 year old Fearne Cotton.

Fearne, is a former girlfriend of Lostprophet Ian Watkins and related to longtime BBC executive & Boss Sir Bill Cotton. Sir Bill (1928–2008) was her paternal grandfather's cousin.

Coming from Britain's TV caste and having worked backstage at Liveaid at the age of four, Cotton has now been given Radio One's number two show from 21 September.

Known for her many absences from the Chart Show "to launch her US TV career", presumably chart show sidekick Reggie Yates will now be adding weekday deputy to his duties when Cotton's Radio One morning show wanderlust again sets in.

Cotton follows in the Radio One morning show footsteps of Jo Whiley (01-09), Simon Mayo (93-01), Simon Bates (77-93) and Tony Blackburn (73-77).

There must be some question on how she can have become so valuable to the BBC that in 2008 she was allowed to continue as co-host of Radio One's chart show whilst not being on the show.

In fact she couldn't have been much further away from the show having moved over to the USA to host The Guinness Book of Records - Live.

If Radio One's chart show has been winning the ratings war with the commercial radio network it's due either to Reg who was there nearly all the time or Hit 40 UK's Lucio Buffoon. Sorry Buffone and the tale of incompetance surrounding it's recent complete demise.

Back to Fearne Goes To Hollywood, she went on to co-host the NBC reality show Last Comic Standing and she must have been serious about the US having resigned her presenting role on The X Factor spin-off The Xtra Factor to concentrate on her US career. Fearne was also seen making a special appearance on the super-hit show of recent divorcees Katie Price and Peter Andre, where she was seen in a gift lounge before the Oscars.

It's hard to crack Britain never mind America, maybe Stateside didn't work out for her or presumably she'd still be there.

There must be some pay-off somewhere.

Interestingly she was replaced on her Xtra Factor role by her friend Holly Willoughby who's just landed Fern Britton's ITV This Morning job.

Another departure from daytime Radio One is Edith Bowman whom we fondly remember telling intimate details of her 'kebab' on Red Dragon some years back. Edith loses her afternoon show to Greg James, "Best Male Presenter" at the Student Radio Awards in November 2005, for which the prize was a 1 hour show on Radio 1 and Bob's yer uncle.
