this week's post ...

Doves
Winter Hill
new single
Here's another epic five minute single from The Doves, 'Winter Hill' with it's edgy yet mellow tones and a superb video to acompany. Deserves Top 40.

Eminem
Beautiful
new single 3 August
'The greatest lyricist of his generation....' Em's LP 'Relapse'
has already sold a million and from it comes a third ten ten hit for sure. In fact 'Beautiful' has already hit the top 40 on downloads some weeks back and this more mellow Eminem track, akin to 'Stan' should again hit the 40 when it's officially released in August.

The Foxes
Lover, Killer
new single 3 August
Mixed by Sam Wiliams of Supergrass & Kula Shaker fame here comes a third single from The Foxes. The choppy 'Lover, Killer' follows 'Trauma Town' and 'Bill Hicks' with Summer dates in the UK and tour duty in India and the USA later this year in a red double decker bus ... ? 'Headlock' includes the trademark line
" and I wonder if she'd even cry with shampoo in her eyes, and she rinses her hair like she rinses the men from her lives ... ". A catchy could be.

Gary Go
Engines
new single 20 July
Gary's third single is a slow balladdy type, not too disimilar to a Gary Barlow Take That gem.. Gary Go will I'm sure have won many new fans opening for Take That on their recent tour especially with strong pop material like this. Many fans will already have 'Engines' on his 'Gary Go' album, however with airplay he could fill his ranks with new fans and break the top forty for a second time in three outings. Good

The Gossip
Music For Men
new album 22 June
It's The Gossip innit, it's Beth Ditto wonderful and unique and a superb attacking performance as ever. A great act with another superb album recorded at Shagri Las Studios in Malibu, Los Angeles, california ... ah. Including the superb single 'Heavy Cross' along with '8th Wonder', 'Dimestore Diamond', 'Pop Goes The World', 'Love & Let Love' and the excellent Fred Falke remix of 'Heavy Cross'. Music for everyone, great!

Kissy Sell Out
Youth
new album 22 June
Designer, DJ, Producer, remixer, Artist ... this man knows a dance floor chune no doubt and 'Youth' is packed with catchy toe-tapping gems from start to finish. The super single 'This Kiss' is featured along with 'Essex Boy', 'Apple Jelly', and the strangely titled 'Bubs & Bizzle', 'Go Explode' and 'Pop Bottle'. Top notch electro pop dance.

Little Boots
Hands
new album 22 June
Victoria Hesketh has made number fourteen with her proper debut single 'New In Town' and been elbowed out early by Jacko's untimely demise and subsequent domination of the chart. This is a fine debut album with the storming 'Stuck On Repeat' worth it for that alone. Then there's 'Meddle', 'Tune Into My Heart', 'Hearts Collide' and 'No Brakes'. It's a long way from the punky femme Dead Disco she lit up a couple of years back. Obviously the album should have been called 'Feet', but 'Hands is a good start, b'ig future for Little Boots!

Metric
Gimme Sympathy
new single
'Gimme Sympathy' is another storming song from Canada's Metric with a little luck could see them join The Gossip in the UK top forty.

Red Light Company
Meccano
new single 3 August
Red Light Co. played at our Cardiff Barfly night a couple of times last year, a top band of musicians and rewarded with prime display of their debut album in Asda and the like. 'Meccano' is just one of a whole crop of anthemic Red Light Co.songs which deserve success, hopefully if this one cracks the forty they'll re-issue the awesome 'Arts & Crafts'. Great band.

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 21 Jun 09

David Guetta knocks Pixie off with the help of Kelly Rowland on his new number one 'When Love Takes Over' , mmm nice!

Take That fresh from a superb couple of dates at Millenium Stadium get this week's highest new entry with 'Said It All' at 9, a joint feat which led me to play the entire six minutes of the requested 'Never Forget' ... I hid my eyes and looked up to find a full dance floor... it just shows to go you!

Two babies in months for Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Son Kit Valentine was launched in February and this week Sophie gives birth to her new hit with the Freemasons, 'Heartbreak' straight in at 15. Then there's The Yeah You's, Paloma Faith, Jack Penate and The Gossip completing this weeks new crop.

6 new entries – 7 up, 27 down, 0 non-movers
