UK Top 40 Sun 18 Jul 10
The top notch 'Airplanes' of Bobby Ray & Hayley Williams climbs to number one on it's seventh week in the UK Top 40... and it's nearly there in the US where Katy Perry hangs on to top spot for a sixth week.
Ooops JLS seem to be in a little difficulty... all the X-Factor fans rushed out to buy their new song last week... this week 'The Club Is Alive' - their strange rip-off of 'The Sound Of Music' drops to number seven... that's a big fall in two weeks by any standards. Perhaps they didn't realise just how cringeworthy most of us would find it... reminds me of a black music station I worked for called WNK... so difficult getting anyone to advertise on WNK... obvious to most of us why.
Marshall Mathers 'Recovery' returns to the top of the UK Album Chart and Em's 'duet' with Rihanna moves up to 3 on the singles.
4 new entries - 8 up, 27 down, 1 non-mover

Spillers Re-opens
Posted Wednesday 21st July 2010
Here's the latest from our favourite indie..... "We thought we should let you know how things have been progressing with our epic move from our home of 60 years, 36, The Hayes. In total, it took us 14 straight days and 3 skips to vacate our old home but we did it! As you can imagine, there were a lot of 'finds' along the way, from card board cut out displays to long lost stock that had been stashed away in the depths of our basement. We can't wait to get these on sale and on display in the new shop once we get a chance to sift through them. Thanks to the hard work of the staff here and a lot of special people we got out and are now in full flow with the set up of our new shop. For those of you who don't yet know, we've not moved far - just in to the Morgan Arcade (right next to the Bakers Row / Metros entrance). We love our new surroundings and are please to tell you that there is 180 degree window space which means ... lots of light and lots of space to create splendid window displays! This will be one of the biggest differences for you and us after so many years in the old place which was (in the nicest possible way!) a wee bit dingy! We've had a wall taken down on the shop floor and given the whole place a lick of paint. We're creating what we've been referring to as the M.B.A (Mezzanine Browsing Area - also known as the V.P.L - Vinyl Perusing Landing!). This will be a quiet area upstairs with listening posts, recommends and our Vinyl racks. Very exciting! We're delighted that our old Spillers sign is going to find a new home at St Fagans Museum. To commemorate our relocation, the legendary Pete Fowler (who you Super Furry Animals fans will know from all the great art work he's done for them). If you don't know his work, check it our here : http://monsterism.net/ The T shirt looks fantastic and we'll be setting up a shop that will take paypal payments for those of you that like that kind of thing! We'll let you know when that is set up and we'll put a link on our front page here as well. Now to opening : We're aiming for the middle of next week and we'll give you a definite day towards the end of this week so look out for that confirmation in the next few days. As far as releases go, there's a cracking new release from Gruff Rhys in the form of a collaboration with Tony Da Gatorra. We will have this on sale for our opening day. We hope that brings you up to date. We appreciate all your encouragement, support and patience in waiting for our opening. All we need you to do is to bring (long!) shopping lists in with you when you come to see our new home. We will, as always, endeavour to order you anything we are unable to supply over the counter. We hope you're all smashing and can't wait to welcome you to Spillers Records 31, Morgan Arcade, Cardiff CF10 1AF xx"

Missing Person

Anyone seen Gordon.. you remember Britain's Prime Minister until May 6th or was it May 11th. Plenty of rumours flying around... 'How is Gordon?' the BBC man questioned Peter Mandelson... 'Oh he's fine working in Westminster and his constiutuency'.... except no-one seems to have seen him for weeks... Wherefore art he? Being de-briefed, returned to Russia, on holiday with Yo-Blair??? The mystery deepens and how many newsrooms are running a wager on just when his reappearance may be... |
