ohell anagram Welcome to the internet home for Mike TreVelyan and Mad4it - a weekly and sometimes mobile club night. We like to raise the roof with the biggest indie & alternative hits ever and take in some mainstream & some unusual requests - click here for a recent setlist. Here's Cardiff Barfly's upcoming Friday live line-up :- on Friday 3rd April it's the excellent Smiths tribute The Smiths Indeed with support from Jon Byrne

15 years ago... Sunday 3 April 1994 - a youthful Robbie Williams got his first lead vocal number one when Gary Barlow stepped aside to allow the Robster to take pole position on 'Everything Changes'. See, Gazza wasn't such a bad old bean eh? Take That's comeback seems universally acclaimed as a pretty brilliant move with three chart-toppers already in 'Patience', Shine', 'Greatest Day' and the superb single only 'Rule The World'. Interesting that their latest single 'Up All Night' could reach only 14 - the band's lowest placed hit since 1990. And Robbie doesn't seem to be able to put a foot right recently, apt timing perhaps for Rob to re-join his mates ....
Fresh faced Robbie led Take That to number one on 'Everything Changes' in April 1994

this week's post ...

Bat For Lashes
Daniel
new 7" single 6 April
What a superb track, atmospheric intro, haunting vocals pulling in around 134bpm. Remixes supplied here by Duke Dumont and Death Metal Disco Scene. Full UK tour begins on 7 April with two dates at Shepherds Bush Empire on 17 & 19 April. Surprisingly Tast

Billy Boy On Poison
Standing Still
new single 27 April
As previewed on their sampler this is a stand-out track from Los Angelinos Billy Boy. They took their name from an Anthoiny Burgess Clockwork Orange character so you may imagine the bands uncompromising stance. Upbeat and 152bpm... now Metro Station are top ten these guys could soon follow suit, hit potential

Delta Spirit
People C'mon
new single 20 April
San Diego's Delta Spirit bring us a new song, the 127bpm 'People C'mon' from their debut album 'Ode To Sunshine' - "a soulful slice of Americana - more Deep South than West Coast".. yes this is a little different - very reminiscent of Seasick Steve, it's standout material ... will it sell? Well the Seasick one has got plenty of shelf space and Delta Spirit on 'Decca' could fill his space easily

Hollywood Undead
Undead
new single 4 May
As one of my banker friends said to me some years back "Is there life before death". I think he's now living in The Phillipines, somewhere in Asia or maybe he's joined this new masked Slipknot meets Eminem troop. "I don't give a f++k..." is the message from The Hollywood Undead, there has to be a possibility Sir Fred is involved here, possibly as part of his Prince's Trust duty. Seriously, if Eminem and The Knots are still in there's a worthy support act here but I'm not sure it fits the spoken direction of the new world order. Hollywood Undead's 81bpm 'Undead' is a challenging rap rock stomper

InnerPartySystem
Heart Of Fire
new single 4 May
Following their sell-out tour Pennsylvania's IPS release another storming new single. 'Heart On Fire' is another 144bpm electro whizz with superior production values and a great pop ambience. I hope this one cracks the top forty for them, great

Little Boots
New In Town
new single 25 MayLittle Boots aka Victoria Heskath has managed to carve a demand out for herself by introducing her new songs on YouTube in various states of near undress, writing at night-time that's probably not so unusual. Here's a prediction, 'Stuck On Repeat' will sooner or later go top ten. Here then is the first proper single from Ms Boots and it's another electro pop tenurion primed masterclass, 'New In Town' takes an interestingly different and accessible spin on a story time lyric.. yeh hope it's a top forty for her

PJ Harvey
A Woman A Man Walked By
new album 30 March
PJ Harvey credits her long time helper John Parrish with full writing credits and a joint tour with this new collection of songs. The dark single 'Black Hearted Love' kicks off with Polly in top form, then 'Sixteen, Fifteen, Fourteen', 'Leaving California', 'The Chair', 'April', title track 'A Woman A Man Walked By / The Crow Knows Where All The Little Children Go', 'The Soldier', 'Pig Will Not', 'Passionless Pointless' and 'Cracks In The Canvas'. Forming part of Island Records fiftieth anniversary year - Polly's fifteenth - PJ gives us another artistically fine album

VersaEmerge
VersaEmerge
new EP
On Panic At The Disco's FuelledByRamen label here's another similarly styled outfit. Six top quality tracks virtually merged and musically stimulating. Great vocals and production they make their UK tour debut at the Give It A Name tour, see them in manchester Academy on 18 April and Brixton Academy on 19 April

This week's Top 40 ...

Top 40 Sun 29 Mar 09

Lady GaGa number one again with the excellent 'Poker Face' fighting off a superb single from The Noisettes 'Don't Upset The Rhythm' which debuts at 2.

Asher Roth, Jennifer Hudson, White Lies and KIG's 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes' make up this week's new entries

Just look at the funny or is it cringeworthy Comic Relief 'Islands In The Stream'.. 1, 3 and now 23. At least we know that Homne Secretary Jaqui Smith and her Government chums are joining in by doing 'something funny for' our money ... charging us to watch additional features. Laugh? I nearly did

7 new entries – 6 up, 24 down, 3 non-movers
