this week's post ...
Primal Scream
Can't Go Back
new single 14 July
Well here's Bobby Gillespie in startling form, a 154bpm stormer. Primal Scream are back get ready to rock!
CSS
Left Behind new single 14 July
CSS much requested and increasingly requested, another fine single bodes well for bigger success once their new album hits the shops
Presets
This Boy's In Love Losers Remix new single 23 June
Remixed by Temple-Morris, and Eddy TM's done it again - I wonder what his politician Dad makes of it ... this could be a future party leader here. Seriously Presets are fab and this is a well groovy remix
Madcon
Beggin' new single 1 August
I liked the Pilooski remix of this Franki Valli classic when it was released last year. I thought it would do well but perhaps M. Valli's a little elderly for 08, maybe this Norwegian version will do better - the timing is certainly right for an August smash
Melee
Built To Last new single 14 July
From Orange County, California (Greater LA) comes Melee with another slab of quality American AOR. The band formed in 2003 so this maybe the start of a big year for them
Royal Treatment Plan
Undercurrent new single 30 June
Hectic track, tasty femme vocals, great production from the legendary glam Mud Sweet Blondie producer Mike Chapman, RTB could be right on the pulse at the right time, very nice
Leon Jean Marie
Bring It On new single 23 June
Great to see this man has landed a support slot with Estelle. I'm a big fan of Leon Jean Marie since the brilliant 'Scratch' came out last year, he gigged at our Mad4it back then supporting Unkle Jam. A similar phrasing detected on 'Bring It On', and it could be a litle insignia for the man. A quality track and a cute remix by the v talented Ms Little Boots, very tasty
DJQ & MC Bonez
You Wot new single 7 July
Nice to see Hudders' on the map and the late DJ Steve Walsh's 'You Wot You Wot You Wot' alive again after twenty years. However as with so much of the grime and rap flavas it's hard to imagine much longevity. Wiley's up there right now, lookin for his Rolex and I see no reason save a few trips to Hoxton why these guys shouldn't be following him into the top ten
Lykke Li
I'm Good I'm Gone new single
Lykke Li is coming. 'i'm Good I'm Gone' is a fine single, I like Lykke, she's edgy, got a strangely enticing voice and the arrangements are in the pop domain of leftfield. Oh yeah and she wrote that great line 'You're the one I keep my legs open for'. I think she's gonne make it big-time
Ladytron
Velocifero new album 2 June
Fine sleeve art work, a lovely package design. Ladytron are a Human League for now, very distant female vocals and hyptnotic electro. I'm not sure 'Ghosts' was the best choice for first single. And I'm not sure the prolonged intros are doing them any favours in the way of airtime accessibilty. Fave trax, 'Burning Up', 'Versus', 'Kletva', 'Predict The Day' and 'Tomorrow'
Weezer
Weezer new album 16 June
Much rquested and much loved, it's great to have a new Weezer record and te single leader Pork & Beans is a top single with a superb video. Four more fab songs on this sampler include the ambitious I'm 'The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations On A Shaker Hymn)' ... que? Anyways, it's good solid material and the full album's out now
Noah & The Whale
Five Years Time from new album 'Young & Lost Club' 21 July
I do rather like Charlie Fink and his Whaley chums and 'Five Years Time' is a charming little ditty. See them perform this strange phenomenon, new British folk, they'll be escorting The Zutons on their tour. Who'd have thought it but there are several of these new 'folk' bands cropping up in south Wales, Jamie & The Lionhearts to name one. Noah and pals have moved in the same circles as Laura Marling and 'Five Years Time' could be played on any station and thus stands a top forty chance as good as any
Estelle
No Substitute Love
new single 30 June
Estelle seemed to have blown it, but low and behold here's another one in the eye of her detractors or 'Haters' as some might put it. Borrowing a little phrasing from George Michaels 'Faith', 'No Substitute Love' is again another superb slab of new r n b destined to strike big in the US and around the world for the London lady
