Word Gets Around
new special edition album 18 October 2010

No ordinary song - 'A Thousand Trees' has the X-Factor - quite why a song about a respected junior football coach who ruined his career through a lurid sexual encounter with a female student should engender so much love is a mystery, but it does. It features a quite uniquely brilliant belting chorus which only seems to be stronger with time. The bands fourth single was taken from their debut album, 'Word Gets Around' and released in August 1997, it reached number 22 on the UK Singles chart. The album is re-released this week in a superb limited edition three cd set, here's the lyrics

Standing at the bus stop with my shopping in my hands
And I'm overhearing elder ladies
As the rumours start to fly
You can hear them in the school yard
In the scrap yard
In the chip shop
In the phone box
In the pool hall
At the shoe store
Every corner turn around
It started with a school girl
Who was running
Running home to her Mam and Dad
Told them she was playing, in the change room of the local foorball side
They said tell us again, she told them again, tell us the truth, they find it hard to believe
'Cause he taught our I was steve, he even trained me, taught our John who's a father of three

Only takes one tree, to make 1000 matches
Only takes one match, to burn A thousand trees
A thousand trees

You see it in the classroom
In the swimming pool
Where the match stick men are made
At the scout's hall
At the football
Where the wise we trust are paid
They all honour his name
He did a lot for the game
Got his name knocked up above the sports ground gates
But they're ripping them down, stamping the ground
Picture gathers dust behind the bar in the lounge

Only takes one tree, to make a thousand matches
Only takes one match, to burn a thousand trees
A thousand trees

Wake up, and smell the rain
Shake up, he's back to stay
He hasn't been on a holiday
His growing seeds don't believe
Why he's been away
From the school yard
Changing room
Playing field
Bathroom
Phone box
Office blocks
Corners turn around
They keep doubting the flame, tossing the blame
Got his name knocked up above the sports ground gates
And they're ripping them down, stamping the ground
Picture gathers dust in the bar

Only takes one tree, to make a thousand matches
Only takes one match, to burn A thousand trees
A thousand trees
A thousand trees
A thousand trees

UK Top 40 Sun 10 Oct 10
Congrats to Atlanta's Thomas DeCarlo Calloway aka Cee Lo Green who's clean & dirty 'Forget You' / 'F+ck You' double download has gone straight to number one beating Robbie Williams & Gary Barlow's oh so chummy 'Shame'.

Wiki - Cee Lo has described himself as being a "goon" in his youth. By the age of 10, he unfortunately made a disturbing hobby of torturing stray animals. He also spent his High School years assaulting homeless people and mugging passers-by, admitting "[I was] Just plain maniac."
He has two daughters, Sierra and Kalah, the daughters of his former wife Christina Johnson, and a son, Kingston. Sierra was on an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet 16 in season 1. She was also featured on the follow-up MTV television series, Exiled. Kingston is featured on the intro of 'Cee-Lo Green... is the Soul Machine'.

Tinie may have lost the singles top spot but he's shot in at No.1 on the UK Album Chart with 'Discovery' - and his 'Wonderwoman' collaboration with Ellie Goulding is proving a popular single download.

Stateside Bruno Mars holds on for a third week at No.1 with 'Just The Way You Are' with Far East Movement and Nelly in hot pursuit.

CD Albums for £1

The price of music albums should be slashed to around £1, a former major record label boss has suggested.
Rob Dickins, who ran Warner Music in the UK for 15 years, said "radically" lowering prices would help beat piracy and lead to an exponential sales rise.
Mr Dickins was in charge of the label from 1983-98, working with acts like Madonna, REM and Simply Red.
But his "revolution" in album prices has been met with scepticism from many in the music business.
Speaking at the In The City music conference in Manchester, Mr Dickins said album prices had already been pushed down by price wars and declining demand, and were likely to fall further.
"What we need is a revolution. What we've got is an erosion. When I was running Warners, a chart CD could be £12.99. A chart CD now can be £6.99, maybe even £5.99."
Some major album downloads currently sell for as little as £3.99 through retailers such as Amazon.
If record labels made the decision to charge much less, fans would not think twice about buying an album on impulse and the resulting sales boost would make up for the price drop, he predicted.
Making the comments during a debate with REM manager Bertis Downs, Mr Dickins advocated a "micro-economy" in which fans would make many small payments. He said: "If you're a fan of REM and you've got 10 albums and there's a new album coming out, you've got to make that decision about whether you want it or not. "If we lived in a micro-economy, that wouldn't be a decision. You'd just say 'I like REM' and you'd buy it."
Major albums would sell 200 million copies, he predicted. Last year's global best-seller, Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, sold eight million.
