this week's post ...

Filthy Dukes
Tupac Robot Club Rock
new single 3 November
Filthy Dukes aka DJ's Tim Lawton & Olly Dixon of the Kill Em All Club at Camden Barfly and Fabric are well renowned for their "electro-acid-house-nurave-twisted-disco-pop-funk" dj sets performed with Mylo, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. That'll probably give you a good idea of how the pounding slightly up-beaten 'Tupac Robot Club Rock' sounds. It's an interesting adgy drum track accompanied by the "lyrical spitfire of subversive Philadelphian funsters Plastic Little". Their new album 'Nonsense In The Dark' was recorded at the same studio Kraftwerk created their masterpieces, so there's a distinctly edgy electro feel to this rocker. V. interesting, v. dancey

Kanye West
Love Lockdown
new single
There's something missing here ... Kanye is not rapping, no rap ... mmm Kanye's ahead of the game again, the first rapper to hit the top ten with out rapping. So aware of other genres is Mr West that he reaches from hip hop to indie rock with ease and a credibility envied by many. This is an unusual 62 - 124bpm song and is thorughly deserving of top ten and climbing. Great

Keane
The Lovers Are Losing CSS Remix /
Spiralling Diplo Remix
new single 20 October
Well the interesting thing about Keane's new single is it is still in the shade of Keane's old single 'Spiralling' which has just climbed to near top twenty status in it's third month on the chart. 'The Lovers Are Losing' is another fine new song from Keane with an irresistable 118bpm CSS remix made for segquing with CSS own 'Move' or 'Let's Make Love & Listen To Death From Above'. The 132bpm Diplo Remix of Spiralling is 10bpm faster than it's original and adds a welcome opportunity to vary it's play. Good

Nick Harrison
Something Special
new single 24 November
Pulling in at 145bpm Nick new song is more Jack Penate than his last reggae tinted outing and 'Something Special' is the type of song that could win over many of Jack's fans. See Nick on tour supporting The Automatic throughout November (they're at Swansea Sin City on Wednesday 5th November). Good tune

last week's post ...

Gloria Cycles
No Zeroes
new single
Gloria Cycles are improving all the time, here's another punchy new two track cd with the lead track, the 2 minutes 40 seconds 164bpm 'No Zeroes' followed by the short 1' 40" 'Wonderbus'. Short and sweet and a big maybe

Josephine Oniyama
Closer
new single 17 November
Who? Yes Josephine opened the Liverpool Proms in 2000 with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and since has guested with Byrds legend Roger McGuinn and Josh Ritter, recording her first demos with Elbow's Guy Garvey. 'Closer' is an unusually frenetic debut which kinda stands out firstly for it's solid 118bpm bassline intro and then winding up to 250bpm's for the main verse & chorus. 'Rollicking rockabilly' as the pr says is an apt description and Jo signed to Island should pick up some valuable new fans with this release

Kid British
Elizabeth
new single 27 October
Yep she's on the cover again, just like on The Pistols 'God Save The Queen' but without vthe nasal safety pin. This appears to be a love song 'Lizbeth' as Kid Brit serenades her at a pop punky 164bpm it's a nice idea. However, it probably needs another silver or golden jubilee to catch on

Lucien Caine
EP1 The Only Man That Matters
new EP 27 October
Well this is a bit of a classic cd, the debut from Manchester's Lucien Caine. Four superb tracks here leading with the 110bpm 'The Only man That Matters', then the 90bpm 'Advice From Strangers', our initial fave the 110bpm 'Black Widow' and the slow commanding 78bpm 'Those Days Are Gone'. This is the first of three four track EP's showcasing an album's worth of material. Very, very good

Opera House
'Change In Nature'
new single/EP 10 November
Four superb tracks here on Operahouse debut EP. The 100bpm title track kicks in first, then the gripping 93bpm 'Criminals' and the 95bpm 'Plastic Cage' and the outstanding 96bpm finale, 'Red hats For The Masses'. For every thousand of these cd's sold this environmentally conscious band will dedicate a quarter of an acre of woodland with the woodland trust, each with about 25 mature trees

Red Light Company
Scheme Eugene James Ruill Remix
new single
Red Light Company return to Mad4it at Cardiff Barfly on Friday 7 November 2008. 'Scheme Eugene' is their latest single and now it comes in an excellent throbbing 135bpm James Ruill remix, well worthy!

Thomas Tantrum
Rage Against The Tantrum
new single
Well well, this is the dog's bollothingy .. these chaps and chapesses have been around a little while and this is their best yet. Thomas Tantrum are Miss Megan Thomas: Vox + Guitar, Mr Ken Robshaw: Drum Kit + B.V's, Mr David Miatt: Guitar + B.V's, Mr Jim Shivers : Bass + B.V's and hey everybody they hail from Goatee Beach, United Kingdom. Rage Against The Tantrum is full of youthful exuberance at a joyous 124bpm, catchy and uplifting and a stupendous title 'Rage Against The Tantrum' - very nice and if there be any justice this should follow Noah & the Whale into the top ten. See them live at Tommy's Bar, Cardiff as part of the John Rostron's Swn Festival on Friday 14 November 2008

The Verve
Rather Be
new single 17 November
It's classic Verve with Ashcroft strolling once again through video land, no mention of the Mrs though. 'Rather Be' should be top twenty without too much trouble, a worthy follow-up to 'Love Is Noise' which made the top five and spend nine weeks in the forty. Good chune

Just the ticket ...
From our 'stranger than fiction' file here's some unusual ways to attract parking fines

Michael Collins was on his way to collect a skip in North London, when suddenly the road gave way and the front wheel of his 17-tonne truck became stuck. Unbeknown to Mr Collins, a burst water main had caused the road to collapse and whist waiting for his truck to be rescued a parking attendant appeared. To the astonishment of Mr Collins and the residents who had gathered to see what was happening, the parking attendant stood on her tiptoes and slapped a ticket on the windscreen. Her only response was "you can appeal"

Nicky Clegg of Stoulton near Pershore, was driving in her car with her 11 year old son and 82 year old mother, when out of nowhere a tree crashed onto the car. Miraculously no one was hurt, that is except for the car, which sustained a crushed bonnet, smashed windscreen and broken wing mirrors. Police dragged the car to the side the road and told Ms Clegg that it would be fine to leave it there until the next day, when she had got over the shock. However, when Ms Clegg return the following day she was astonished to find a parking ticket on the window

It comes as no surprise that drivers and their motor vehicles often receive parking tickets, but how many people would expect their four legged friend to receive a ticket. That was the question left on Robert McFarland's lips, when he left his trusty steed, Charlie Boy, for a brief moment at the side of the road in Yorkshire and returned to find a parking ticket attached to his horse. Vehicle description: "brown horse"

For the past four years a mobile National Blood Service van has been visiting Sutton and parking in the same spot, outside a group of offices. One parking attendant was not feeling as charitable as those inside the van and decided their gift for the day would be in the form of a parking fine. Looks like the saying is true, no good deed goes unnoticed

Chris O'Mahony was going about his normal day driving a bus, when he saw ahead of him a bus stop full of people waiting to board. He pulled over and started to let people on. Everything seemed normal enough, except for one passenger who joined the queue, a parking attendant. He issued Mr O'Mahony and his bus a parking ticket for stopping in a restricted area. Looks like Mr O'Mahony wasn't the only person issuing the tickets on his bus that day
