this week's post ...
Nick Harrison
Oi Rude Boi new single 23 July
I really like this, it kinda weaves it's way into your melody modes in an authentic rude boi stylee, it's got good potential
The Coral
Being Somebody Else new single 8 September
Much requested Coral make a welcome return with another gentle yet edgy accoustic melody and at 2'40" Radio's 1 & 2 and the commercial stragglers should lap it up. Great
Ida Maria
Fortress new album 28 July
Great to see 'I Like You Better When You're Naked' in the Top 20 this week a great send off for this new album. Each track is a gem, and with Ida's unique approach this is one of the albums of the year
Presets
Talk Like That
new single 1 September
Another great chunky, beaty electro single from The Presets who surely must have a hit soon, maybe this'll do it for them
Lykke Li
Breaking It Up new single 25 August
'Breaking It Up' has a uniquely dark almost gruesome intro which makes it stand out from the pack some, it's one of the stand out tracks from the Youth novels album and could with a bit of luck do well
Jeremy Warmsley
Lose My Cool new single
This is a fine left field piece, Indie / Folk Rock / Electronica is an apt moniker to describe the work of Mr Warmsley. Very worth a listen and a few plays also is Jeremy's version of the New Order classic 'Temptation' as featured on his myspace. A good tune, deserves success
G Love & Special Sauce
Superhero Brother new album
G Love & Special Sauce do have something different here .. the name stands out and the material is in some kind of time warp. This is a pastiche collection of songs 'Communication' sets the tone for an authentic take on an old 60's 70's vibe .. then we're into the brisk uptempo happy go lucky 'City Livin', the 4 minute 'Wiggle Worm' leads into the single 'Peace Love & Happiness'. To cut a long story short this will sit great with Jack Johnson, ALO and Matt Costa and accoustic similars, however I don't think this is strong enough to carry through on it's own, it's good but it's probably just a little too dated
Mason Jennings
In The Ever new album 25 August
I like this album, I like Mason Jennings style - he fits in well with the Brushfire roster.
In particular I like the quite ridiculous 'Your New Man', there's a few words which made me stop and stare and that's never a bad thing - a particularly witty and warm performance recieved well by the gathered live audience. A warm refreshing album
